Beyond Iona (take my hand)

by Richard Lloyd Cederberg — Read all 280 poems by Richard Lloyd Cederberg

We are loved by our Creator far beyond our ability to comprehend. “You are not just a drop in the ocean, you are the entire ocean in a drop….” Rumi

Poem Artwork
On these shores of myth
in a land of self-indulgence
where dispirited aptitude
and the promises of
elevated status
empowers the elites
breathtakingly reckless
furtherment of alternative religious
and philosophical bafflegab – where
wellsprings (riddled with undying oath)
are yoked upon millstones, and etched cruelly
within the cankered plague of wokeness….
.
Tell me...
.
should we assemble in this dark
duality to muse and brood upon the
demise of morality and resourcefulness?
.
Should our tears dampen the
scowling ground, as mindless coterie
dance to the frenzy of string-less harps?
.
Should we assemble together to muse and
brood upon diminishing social morality, the
illusion of celebrity, or the dearth of caring?
.
Perhaps...
.
we should gather and gossip
about another Hollywood outrage
or the declination of American status
or the worst administration in history, as
we observe the proverbial ‘Castle in the Sky,’
with a worshipful celebration of new technology,
prior to finding the mystical shores of Iona,
all while flight of minds-eye
withers winters intrusion,
and our impending
departure conducts a final
Opus to one’s life in sweet strains….
.
Apart from the weariness,
the uncertainties,
the spiritual wars, and
all insanities presently unfolding on
this fallen planet, I have opted,
not to ignore the insanities,
but to reconstitute
my priorities, to
FIND rest in the Creator, to
PRAY for those who provoke me, to
BREATHE in the tuneful roar of
free-flowing rivers, to
MULL the azure skies, to
REINVIGORATE my faith, to
EMBRACE those who share life,
instead of those who
callously abuse sanities balance
with foolish philosophies and vainglories.
.
Entwining our hearts and
minds to eternal Love and Truth,
and to the Christ who gave everything,
Wisdom has chosen to trek bravely
across perilous ridges,
to consider those
atolls beyond
rancor and violence, where
Love, Joy and Truth transmute a
flinty heart into a malleable parchment….
.
I’ll admit that
I sin and falter and
stumble and grieve
despairingly for the murder
of innocent lives, and at times
sharing openly about these battles
becomes onerous…. but still I press on,
.
knowing my life is
but a mist that appears
briefly and then disappears,
a melodious sound captured
by an eager ear
one moment
and lost the next in the
winds of moments passing, and,
.
if I know too that my life
is not my own,
(but a precious gift
given me in season, to
glorify the Life Giver, and to
bless and enrich the lives of others)
what kind of a man should I be?
.
Take MY hand, the Creator affirms, and
those with spiritual wisdom will be departing
together soon (as one) beyond the myth of IONA,
where THOSE WHO BELIEVE will dwell together in love, joy,
peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness,
and self-control, in the One Eternal Truth forever unshaken….

I AGREE. IN THESE TROUBLED TIMES IT IS NOT EASY TO KEEP THE FAITH AND...PRESS ON. BUT, WITH CHRIST...WE ARE ENABLED TO DO JUST THAT. FOR HE LIFTS US UP HIGH, FAR ABOVE THE CLAMOR TO A PLACE OF PEACE THAT IS BEYOND IONA, INDEED...AND ALL OUR UNDERSTANDING. THERE IN THAT SPIRIT FILLED PLACED WE ARE STRENGTHENED AND WE CAN 'SEE' CLEARER... HIM WHO LOVES US AND STANDS BESIDE US. JESUS HOLDS US TIGHT, ESPECIALLY IN THE MOMENTS WHEN WE, BEING FLESH, COME SHORT. FOR EVEN THOUGH WE MAY FALTER HE 'TAKES OUR HAND AND LEADS US ON'. OF THIS WE HAVE HIS PROMISE IN HIS WORD, AMEN. SUCH A FINE WORK RICHARD, NEEDED AND CERTAINLY, APPRECIATED. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...HIS+INSPIRATIONS

I read your words and empathise with your views and outlook..
In my mind all we can do is follow our own hearts, and as you
say to prioritise what we feel is important to us..
Forgiveness must play a part for me too, and a measure of
tolerance for those who think they are helping the world,
but in a way I cannot agree with…
those wonderful qualities of Love, Joy and Peace are our
united goal…
“All we need is Love”….

An impressive and thoughtful poem…thank you…

Dylan's song, "Not Dark Yet" popped into my head (written in the 80's, I believe, so prophetic). Yours is an epistle of 2022, the modern man's lament. Anyone with a soul would call these dark times, but you cling to the light-faith and hope. Fine write. Good to read you again. Be well.

We can sit and gripe over the world and what is happening around us, but we have no control over it. All we can do is shout out its inhumanity and immorality, but isn't it what we writers need to do? We have a mission to deliver what we see as unfairness, and hopefully what we write can help someone to change his/her course of life and head in a better direction. We are all unique individuals, and our priorities in life aren't the same either from one to another.

Thank God for such a dwelling place dear poet friend.

We would only be feathers to the wind, if we were not grounded
by His word and deed.

Thank you for always planting a seed of hope in me, dear Richard :)

An incisive treatise on the state of play that we are now facing, each of us on our own. Well done, Richard. Hard-driving and powerful a statement as any.

Wow Richard you are truly growing spiritually! It's the best of times on earth yet the greatest challenging we as Gods children have ever experienced. I can assure you those written in the lambs book of life are feeling at times stretched in fruit and faith and we must learn to rebuke the winds and waves, be like the master that showed us how to calm the storms through power He gave us on high. We are at times of the Great Exodus where no man will help us, only our Lilly of the valley will prove He still is on the thrown as The Great I Am... There is an extremely powerful prophet I've been listening to lately is Amanda Grace on Rumble & YouTube who God has anointed extremely powerful. I know this world communist agenda will be defeated by our God but there is going to be some Egypt dry deserts for even His children to go through. Stay encouraged, uplifted in His praise and Word because the Lion Of Judah is coming so let the lion roar ! We know how the story ends and He wins, so WE WIN !!!

As I read your many grievances to our complicated world for which there is no single solution, I thought of many ways that we could use real data to determine what is important and what is not to prioritize and solve our problems rather than listening to those who shout the loudest and doing nothing.

I find it very disturbing that those who express their freedom of action by buying assault weapons of war and go about killing innocents with their ingrown hatred of their own lives, misled. Especially in America where we spend more money on protection than on mental health creating the quandary that we are in now in this country we call the United States, undivided and with individual freedom of action for all.

I was awakened again to my ignorance of history, watching a 1997 movie, Rosewood, last night. An atrocity that occurred in 1923 but was swept under the rug because of the despicable way that some Americans so vilely treated their fellow citizens by destroying their town and killing most of them.
