Thoughts for Eloise..

by Richard Lloyd Cederberg — Read all 280 poems by Richard Lloyd Cederberg

PORTRAYAL 13. Poets continue writing because there are still things [in them] that refuse to die. In memory….

Poem Artwork
SOME POETS
write from
places no one else
has ever been, revealing,
at times, matters rarely felt
or considered, and even
at times redeeming
poetry’s waning
social value, by
keeping a finger on
the state of the culture,
but remaining only as radiant
as the honesties they speak….
SOME POETS
see more
feel more
reveal more
without deepening
the colors of the blossom,
as a child, who sees with its hands,
naïvely shares a kind of artless insight
that moves even the most pretentious heart…
SOME POETS
touch at times the
bare thorns of conundrum,
originality breathing newness
while shedding a pall
of past pretensions
with reverence
infusing
another with
delicate acumen
while seeking inspiration
as the Eagle, aloft in the high places,
comprehends the moon and the heavens …

ii
LIFE imitating
water flowing always
there then gone temporal
experience blended slowly into
times river of endless seconds…
Hidden constructs of
joy and sorrow
like drops
of agua
languishing in
stifling summer sun.
Piteously, we all yield
in life’s granitic grip.
Everyone submits,
choosing Light,
choosing darkness, as
time mercilessly hounds us …
Sadly, like you Eloise,
misled your entire life,
many choose speciously,
and slowly dissipate in
ignorance and
loveless
indifference…
Beyond the pale,
confused and repulsive,
too many end up believing
evils honeyed dark pretext
and die the second death…

iii
SOME POETS reveal,
not as sunlight
those things concealed,
but as lanterns in the darkness
illuminating forms and mysteries…
SOME POETS [at times] can
hear the cries of
another soul
and speak to them
without knowing them,
or without them knowing
there’s a revolver hidden in the words
pointed straight at their hearts…

THE PORTRAYAL SERIES: Poetiprose insights concerning family and old friends, alive or dead. This series will also address certain of the actors, artists, musicians, and writers I worked with in college, or professionally, that were influential (in one way or another) in shaping the man I am today.

WITHOUT A DOUBT RICHARD, EVERYTHING MATTERS THAT TRANSPIRES IN OUR LIVES...PEOPLE, PLACES OR THINGS. FOR, MOST DEFINITELY...WE ARE MOLDED AND SHAPED IN VARIOUS AND SIGNIFICANT WAYS... BY IT ALL. BE IT POSITIVE OR NEGATIVE. THUS, AS YOU HAVE ALLUDED TO...WE HAVE THE MANY 'DIFFERENT VOICES' OF THOSE WHO PICK UP THE PEN. A FINE WORK, ENJOYED, MY FRIEND. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...HIS+INSPIRATIONS

Empathy is a beautiful gift but it is hard on the human heart and requires much wisdom in it's operation. Beautiful pen, Richard.

I found your considered words intriguing…
It set off so many questioning thoughts for me…
So many combinations of expression
In so many differing souls with a multitude of experiences…
I liked the suggestion that we can speak to others cries through our
words, without knowing them…the revolver pointed straight at their hearts
can be interpreted in myriad ways…
A fascinating poem…

Some very delightful original phrasing like "bare thorns of conundrum" throughout this exploration of what SOME POETS do. I know little of who or what Eloise was, but she certainly must have had some influence on you for you to write this ode to her. The last two lines were frightening. Perhaps, intended to be.

Some rare, unique and fabulous insights into the soul of the poet and what he/she is really trying to accomplish, with the success measured in the extent that the poet's words other persons' hearts. Read and reread this insightful poem that itself touches souls.

Your poem really touched me today brother with confirmation of the gifts we sensitives possess...
I love these quotes:
“The real warriors in this world are the ones that see the details of another’s soul.”
“They see the transparency behind walls people put up. They stand on the battlefield of life and expose their heart’s transparency, so others can finish the day with hope. They are the sensitive souls that understand that before they could be a light they first had to feel the burn.”
― Shannon L. Alder

“I am very sensitive to the interactions I have with people. Whether it’s a momentary glance in an elevator, or a deep philosophical conversation over dinner, or a brush-by in a café, I feel (sometimes exhaustingly) attuned and affected by the subtle exchanges that pass seemingly benignly between us as human ships. Being a sensitive empath is a beautiful thing as an artist, and it fosters a deep burning curiosity about why we do the things we do.”

“Being highly sensitive is both a gift and a responsibility.”
“Learning to thrive as a highly sensitive soul presents challenges. If you’re sensitive, you have likely accumulated years of training in trying to overcome the trait because you don’t ‘fit in’ with society. And yet being highly sensitive is a vital part of you. A first step toward thriving as a sensitive soul is to understand and accept your trait. Hear this now: There is absolutely nothing wrong with you. You are just different. As one of my clients says, being highly sensitive is both a gift and a responsibility.”
― HSP life coach Jenna Avery

Thank you Richard for this encouraging write of again self realization of self and others with the eye...
I finally feel so deeply comfortable in my own skin and will never let others brow beat me as being unstable! We are just totally different ~
I so deeply relate to this as i have found my home with highly sensitive creative people. I finally understand myself and other artist sensitives, pray for them and my life is fabulously touched by the vision and gift of us so like minded souls.

Agape always to you & Michelle! ~D

My, my. There are multiple phrases and stanzas for any and all who dare allow truths to penetrate their hearts and minds. While reading this the 2nd time, I couldn't help but remind myself of the many paradoxes in living openly and with risk in the direction of truth. It's a tough row to hoe at times, but oh how rewarding... as your in-depth exploration spreads out before us. So universal in application, but so realized to but a few who genuinely read, reflect, and nod acceptance. One of your best excursions in creative honesty.
