It's How She Copes....

by Richard Lloyd Cederberg — Read all 280 poems by Richard Lloyd Cederberg

PORTRAYAL 26. Unless it’s happened to you, it’s almost impossible to understand the depths of grief a person can experience when they’ve been abandoned by the one they thought loved and respected them.

Poem Artwork
It’s where she dreams
of wholeness, of fulfillment,
and of the love that once
abandoned her, alone
[in a cabin] where
she weeps each
morning
serenely alone
(with hot coffee)
seeking the warmth
of better days, staring
past all obstacles, where
thoughts form as warm breath
on a cold window, and where
wordless sighs ingeminate
in unending echoes…
.
It’s how she copes
with loss and despair,
a careworn heart seeking
restitution from all matters
spent of life…… and as
unbrushed hair
cascades
over moist cheeks,
another wash of gray
sweeps in to replace all
semblances of color, and
where, in a cold ground, broken
dreams are fixing her immovable…
.
But there are times,
when the love inside her
reveals she is never alone, and
she is comforted fleetingly
by the ephemerality’s of
daybreak's newness, but in
ritual, is repeatedly drawn back
into the shadows of loss, where a
wounded heart weeps for something
that once abandoned her…
.
It’s how she copes, with
what life has deprived her of,
imagining her wings carrying her
beyond all the sadness's, as morning
sunlight floods warmly upon her,
and where, at times,
(when her spirit soars)
she fancies herself rollicking
with someone devoted, blithely,
under heavens felicity, with no cares…
.
It’s how she copes,
when life’s burdens are too great to bear,
she imagines what could be, and smiles momentarily….

The Portrayal Series: Personal insights (good and bad) concerning immediate family and old friends (alive or dead). The series will also address some of the actors, artists, musicians, and writers I worked with in college, or professionally over the years, each of whom were influential (in one way or another) in shaping the man I’ve become.

THIS IS A SHARING THAT ALL CAN RELATE TO. FOR SURELY, AT SOME POINT IN OUR LIVING, AT LEAST ONCE... WE HAVE ALL GONE THROUGH THIS. AND, I WAS DRAWN TO THE LINES;...But there are times, when the love inside her
reveals she is never alone, and she is comforted fleetingly... THANK GOD FOR THAT LOVE, HIS LOVE...THAT TENDS US AND EVENTUALLY BRINGS US OUT OF THAT HURTING PLACE. A FINE WORK, INDEED. THANK YOU SO MUCH RICHARD. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...HIS+INSPIRATIONS

I totally get this, the mechanisms we use to get by when we are deprived of the gentle touch of a lost loved one, in whatever form it was dished out to us. Coping, yes, being the operative word here! I've been conspicuously absent a long while now, to my detriment. I thank you for this, so beautifully written, reaches into my heart...
As you have the utmost ability to do..

Grief can be a long journey of despair and sometimes it surprises us with healing moments of acceptance too. Very well written piece Richard, your poetry is always full of emotion and compassion. You are a great observer of life, and your poetry reflects your big heart, thanks for sharing, :)

In spite of its often careless use, it's impossible to "feel" someone else's pain. As you related from the start.

But you have done a very good job describing the loss this woman has encountered and coped with as best she can.

I once attended a conference on coping. My article in talk was about getting beyond coping.

Thank you so much for this deeply prolific and compassionate quill ~ Just incredibly beautiful that brought such tears to my
eyes because it is from the heart that is so deeply
empathetic and we desperately need this compassion, salt and light in the earth right now ........ That's poetry bro!! ...As for her,
out of her worn, dried, dead  branches that were deeply pruned,  fired in the kiln she gives life, hope and fruit to many and reinvents herself  with beautifully green life with each new day despite the struggles, which everyone who has
carried this understands deeply... Outstanding piece that describes so much of the human spirit that is so broken, sad, yet we are part of the healers through Him, praise God in our selfless journey ..... Every chrysalis crippling phase never lasts forever, that there are many seasons......I think she could have or is a powerful testimony of
movement of the heart that will eventually transform other hearts, which in itself is beautiful in many layers through her work God has given in her. Incredible Richard. Can't wait to read your book that I know will come out one day. Gives the hearts yearning to give testimony to souls such as her to surrender and let the Repairer Of The Breach wash that pain away and through the name that is above all names, Christ.....

Like so much in life, this too can be tragic. The giving of oneself to have it thrown away. Yet cope people do and find bravery too. Fine sentiments.
