There He Hung

How ironic it was that this should come to be.

He was hung high above the crowds hanging upon a tree.

It seems only fitting that he should be raised up high.

He came from above to the Earth where he would die.

He came to Earth to pay for sins of you and I.

He came to Earth to show us the way.

It was a high price for our sins that he came to pay

And he hung without anger but with love he did say

Father forgive them, for they know not what they do.

He held no anger or resentment aimed at me or at you.

He knew the cost that would be paid was for our salvation.

He realized that without his love we would live in desecration.

Why then, you may ask did he come from Heaven above?

He came for he realized that we all needed his love.

We could not pull ourselves from hate, sin and resentment.

Without his wonderful love we would never know contentment.

We would never learn the art of meeting our neighbor with a smile.

We would not know forgiveness for forgiving was not our style.

He walked on the Earth that we might all learn

To love one another and let our spiritual lights burn.

As our Lord hung there high on that cross

He did not condemn us but deliver us from a great loss.

A loss of our spirit and a loss of our soul were bought back by God’s Son.

And his very last words while hung on the cross

Was Father, forgive them for they know not what they’ve done.

Can we pray that prayer?  Can we show that love?

If we can, we are promised a place in Heaven above.
