This was a favorite saying of my mother, “I have a problem with seafood. If I see food I want it. This is written in her memory. I want to thank Lena for the poem she shared which brought back these memories.

Hooked on Seafood

I fight a tremendous battle to overcome an addiction.

I have found that I have to change my life and enforce a horrible restriction.

You see my problem is one that many of us share.

People fight this fight here and there and everywhere.

My problem is that I am addicted to all kinds of seefood, you see.

It’s like this.  If I see food I want it, even if it is not good for me.

What I have had to do was learn to look the other way.

I look myself right in the eye and to me I solemnly say.

It tickles my taste buds, that’s wonderful and I love it, yes, I do.

But what is my body going to do with it once I swallow it on through?

My body will most likely store it up, creating cells of fat.

And pretty soon I will find myself looking like a gummy cat.

I love candy bars and ice cream and lots of deserts, so sweet.

I love mashed potatoes and gravy and lots and lots of meat.

The problem is not so much what I eat but the temptation to go back for more.

Before long, I will look into a mirror and see a reflection that I abhor

So, I will have to deal with this and when the man asks, “Do you want King size?”

I will simply say, “No, I think the smaller size is really what is wise.

When I see Food I may want it but I can control my addictive impulse.

Rather than over eating, I would rather count the weight I’ve lost.

I keep telling my doctor, I don't smoke, and I don't drink, so I got to do something that is not good for me, so I have the same problem & it shows when a scale I get on...most are made up to 300, so as long as I stay with that particular scale, I stay at 300 permanently...works for me...Ed

Hey Lew, I like yours better...lots of fun to read, I'd say. I have a weakness for chocolates, but instead of milk ones, I now aim for dark. Then when I begin to look like a potato on legs, that's when I tell myself, "Now look, you've done it again!" Thankfully, I don't have a problem with food! Only eat it because I have to! Great write!

God Bless

What a fun write, Lew -- fun to read and fun to relate to. I'm a sucker for chocolate and to keep myself from having it, I've convinced myself that I'm allergic to it because it makes me break out ... in fat. NOTHING tastes as good as being thin feels.
I loved your poem!!
Many hugs,
CJ
