A wistful poem/song about that someone you saw and instantly fell in love with but never got to know.

Poem Artwork

Never Knew Your Name

I saw you in the park,
saw you at the game,
but you were in the dark, for,
I never knew your name.

I loved you, it seemed, forever,
hoped you loved me the same,
but forever became never,
for I never knew your name.

I dreamed of you every night,
but were my dreams to blame?
Was I wrong or was I right,
for never knowing your name?

So when the years rolled on,
and your love, I could never claim,
your love became like a song,
that didn't have a name.

Soon my days will be over,
though I may have gained fame,
and I found a four leaf clover,
still, I never knew your name.

A classic love story Ron. How many of us have a similar experience etched into our memories as the question haunts us. May peace and love be always with you. Jon Michael

My Friend you should have asked her name, who knows where it might have led. Much enjoyed the poem.

Wistfully bittersweet verses that remind me of something that has happened more than once along my journey. I am a hopeful romantic so, I hope I will meet her/them again "along the journey" of forever. Nicely done, Ron. Love and peace to you,

Regis

The yearning here is evident; I think we all have had "that one that got away" - fate is funny, isn't it?

GREAT write Ron! Reminds me of my teen years. I met a blonde who had bee hive hairdo on the beach. Her name was Cathy but I never got her last name or phone number. I spent the next two months going to the same spot where we met but I could never find her. She was a blonde mystery. I could still smell her hairspray but no, it was not to be for I never got her phone number or last name. God Bless You, John

That evokes something we all can relate to at one time or another but may have never told anyone.
This sounds like it could be a song also like my " Litle Hand" poem you read.
I'll visit this poem often.

But...you've known you imagination, and that has served you well. Think of all those who know the names of girls seen in the park, but left their imagination behind.

I can so identify with the mysterious, elusive being, who claims a place in every waking thought. It is perhaps the best relationship of all ...because it can never fail or disappoint.
