Alienation

A small boy travels to a distant land,
knows not his custom, language and hand.

Knows not his value, faith, and face,
knows not his virtue, love, and place.

He's alien in this nation of rules and laws.
By virtue, a rebel without a cause.

Trapped in his place of walls without walls,
an alien by nature when his nature calls.

He seeks out others of similar fate,
he seeks them out before it's too late.

They convince him that their cause is just.
They convince him they alone he must trust.

In a nation without station a plan is hatched,
in an intricate pattern the flax is thatched.

One life for the cause with heaven at stake.
He is now in a trance and will not awake.

He's knock, knock, knockin' on Heaven's Gate.
Please, please stop him before it's too late!

Should have never reached this state:
ostracized, separated, alienated and berate.

When will we learn to confront our fears,
the alien in our nature that causes tears?

There are many in that same trap and sometimes in is just in the mind. How awful to be an alien in your own mind. Quite a thought provoking write. love it.

Cause for our nation to be alarmed for sure..
That is why our forefathers created a protocol to follow but the alien has changed that for generations to come..

Very interesting poem Ron,
Thanks for sharing

Hi Ron, I understand thoroughly alienation & I'd like to think I understand being an alien in a totally different & fearful new nation. But in reality I don't know, nor do many others, anything about being an alien in a new nation & I think that those that say they do are lying through their teeth. Until WE do understand, we can only guess at someones motivation regards being what is brought to the forefront in this posting. You have tried to handle this subject in your usual manner, and you've done quite well, but most of US haven't a clue...maybe before we, any of us, delve into such a subject, we should understand where aliens etc are coming from...I hope I didn't over simplify or try to hard here...if I did, I am truly sorry...-e-

Sadly, far too many readers are/will only focus on their own fears which you sum up at the end of your poem. Therein is the message. If only some ostensibly well read readers would review the history of alienation, of bigotry and most importantly, the ease with which we as the American people manifest hate in so many cloaked ways, they just might become conscious. Of course such consciousness would require readers to be in possession of critical thinking. For far too many, such mental hygiene is as foreign as the alienated beingings they so readily condemn.

While I empathize with feelings of alienation and isolation and see how the disenfranchised get swept up in a retributive ideology to feel accepted, my feelings of compassion are overridden by arbitrary killings. I certainly realize you are not justifying or condoning violence in your poem. It's just a sore subject.

But that is the state they are in. Can't find much sympathy (none) with me.

Boys and girls fall prey to the predator especially immigrants feel lost or left out. I teared up a bit while reading, "Should have never reached this state:
ostracized, separated, alienated and berate."

So true and so sad.

Love ya!

"The alien in our nature that causes tears?" And fears. I think many of these young people are as much prompted by fear as by rogue ideas. The tight rhyming schedule only emphisizes and heightens the themes you lay out for us here. The two line form works well. I copied you recently in the two line form.
