There are many roads in life.
Which ones do you travel?

Ride the Road

We all travel down that lonely path,
towards the future and from the past.

Taken that road to Rome,
and that long journey home.

Traveled across the scarred land,
been to places never planned.

Arrived in neighborhoods that we feared,
saw the faces of people that leered.

Yet, we venture near and far,
eventually to some, distant star.

We cannot resist riding the road,
even when it exacts a heavy load.

So, if I meet you on the trail,
be sure to smile and we'll prevail.

The road's adventure and it's fame,
not taking it, is what's to blame.

WE ALL TRAVEL...IN DIFFERENT WAYS, NEAR AND FAR - IN SO MANY DIFFERENT AND VARIED VEHICLES. BUT WITH EACH BREATH AS LONG AS GOD DEEMS, WE WILL LIVE AND RIDE OUR ROADS OF LIFE...ON THIS PLANE AND, ONE DAY, ON OTHERS. THANKS FOR SHARING, VERY MUCH ENJOYED. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...JOYCE * HIS INSPIRATIONS

This makes me think of the adage, "nothing ventured, nothing gained." A most meaningful write that all can get something from, Ron. Love and peace to you,

Regis

The road is a continuous experience, life, filled with learning sharing, love and caring. We are the memories we have made and the adventure of living life is unique in the universe. Yes Ron, we should all ride the road with gusto and savor every bump and human panorama. I appreciate the enthusiasm you put into this poem. Write another to share with us today. Jon Michael

I grew up in a rural section of Appalachia in the 1940s and '50s, so it goes without saying that I led a sheltered life. Then after high school, being drafted and serving in Vietnam, I went to college, taught thirty years, retired, and then my wife and I hit the road. We were unstoppable. We visited places my mind never dreamed of seeing when I was a child. In fact, space does not permit me to name all the places I've been. I've been to all fifty states, several Canadian provinces, three European countries, and most main islands of the Caribbean. I say this not in a boastful way, but am telling it in a way to say I have been blessed. We have such a vast, beautiful country, and during many of our travels, we got off the Interstate just to smell the roses along the way. So your poem has done a wonderful thing for me: it has conjured memories that had been lying dormant for a while, and for that I am grateful to you, Ron.

Is there not a book that is similar, not specifically, just kind of like it...still I like to take any road, love to travel, but I've not had the bucks to do so of late...-e-

Regrets and I've had a few, to few to mention as I failed to travel the road less taken but instead paved a new one with good intentions.

This is a poem that particularly touches my heart, being a road runner and fellow traveler for many, many years. As you say, "We cannot resist riding the road, even when it exacts a heavy load." Really enjoyed this one and yes, Ron, if we meet on the trail, and will no doubt "smile and prevail". John

It's the test of our mettle to take those less traveled roads in life. And, you're absolutely right--not taking them is the lament and regret.

Know what you mean, butter bean. I'll tell you about mine. I tool a slew of folks around the world looking for the holy frail for 9 Yeats. Did it with a computer. Don't let anybody say it can't be done. I did it.

Yes, Ron, many travel rocky roads that turn into sand and when you get to that destination, that you first feared...you understand why you are here. Great poetry!

Always,

The road's adventure and it's fame to that
distant star we dream. Fine writing.

You make a very insightful point with this poem! I think that if everyone takes something useful from each road traveled, one gains wisdom which makes the next road a bit easier. Great write, my friend!

Love ya!

Got to keep movin',
can't sit and spin.
I can't wait to be,
on the road again.

Yup! I agree with you heavily with this one, Ron. Some people who travel the same roads as did I ended up much better in life than me. I do not envy them, it is the ones who refused to take that step into the future I disdain. Eh . . . I'm sure they feel the same about me.
