Just a little bit of how I feel about my life and wanting to help others from my optimistic perspective.

For the Love of It

For the love of it, I greet the dawn;

For the love of it, I carry on;

For the love of it, I sing a song;

For the love of it, my day is long.

For the love of it, I write these poems;

For the love of it, I wandered far;

For the love of it, I dismiss bad omens;

For the love of it, catch a star in a jar.

For the love of it, I cherish life;

for the love of it, I heal others' strife;

for the love of it, there are no bounds;

for the love of it, strange as that sounds.

For the love of it, I will live life long;

For the love of it, my novels grow strong;

for the love of it, I'm where you belong;

for the hell of it, I'll take you along.

Hitchhike with me and you can't go wrong.

I know, or those who read you, are acquainted with your life. Yours' certainly has been full of travel, learning, hardships. Being disabled
you have a better understanding of life and acceptance of all things, for you have been there, done that!

Always,

I felt totally uplifted by your positive words and love of life Ron...Great poem!
I had to smile at your car...we never had those really large cars over here in UK...but my dad had the nearest you could get...it was a Zephyr 6...it had those 'wings'...and so comfortable to ride in...also suited my dad's larger than life personality...! Real gas guzzlers though...:-)

One has to love the positive and uplifting perspective that you share through your verses, Ron. I wish I could feel that way. I'm trying but it seems I'm always on the edge of the dark side. Thank you for sharing. Love and peace to you,

Regis

You know... I've never hitch-hiked once in my life. And I've only owned Chryslers and Jeeps. Your piece reminds me of a Hallmark card. Sweet with a simple message. Peace to you... r

57 Desotos

Au contraire, I owned two of them. Great over the road cars. At college, I could haul five six-foot Ethiopians or seven girls plus my cousin out to Pete's Pine Point Lodge and still have room for my sister's midsize girls bicycle in the trunk. That hemi had power to spare on regular gas with 20 mpg gas mileage--2bbl carb.

Read about them here:

Dad also owned a 1960 Dodge wagon. That sucker was a sleeper in drag races, but had bad brakes.

Weren't those big old battleships a kick! Eight MPG gas and a quart of oil - push button xmissions - but it wasn't the car we loved. It was the freedom to be ever on the move, often nowhere. Eventually, like most of us on this site, I learned to do that from my desk, but Kerouac surely helped us along when we had the juices (speaking only for myself, of course) ...

I hope u have a special way of getting picked up while hitch hiking as I have found of late that no one wants to pick anyone up anymore & Ron, I thought you really had at one time smarts & class but still you bought a DeSoto, what a piece of crap, I remember my dad owning one when I was little and fortunately it got washed away in the 1962 storm that for the most part leveled my home town...-e-

Apropos for an old hiker and rock climber too. Finding new trails and unique routes up a rock connects for me with you poem. One might be surprised on how many time one needs a "lift" while hiking or climbing. Enjoyed this.

Hitchhiking was my middle name back then, and I found myself hitching on Authors Den when I first arrived and even more these days. So I’m hitchhiking with you, Ron, just be careful of those sharp curves.

Great poem Ron. I recall those days and I hitchhiked as well. The thought of bad folks picking us up never really crossed my mind. A few years later I bought a 1959 Plymouth station wagon, a cousin to your Dodge. Loved those push button controls! Why they did they away with them? Must be a safety reason. Hmmmm...
