I took a brief break from my engineering job in northern California to become part of the wedding party for my cousin in Manhattan. No TV and unmindful that Bobby Kennedy was lying in state at St. Patrick's Cathedral, the bride’s church. The wedding was at the Immaculate Conception Cathedral instead because my cousin, five years younger than her, was not Catholic. After a dinner from the fabulous menu of the bride's uncle's garden restaurant and free drinks, we walked the streets that hot night down through Greenwich Village in our tuxedos and gowns, and encountered so many on the street and in a small square, so upset with another great loss of someone who cared for them and their needs so well.

Fleeting

When you look back upon,
all those times gone by,
compressed now, fleeting,
a flicker of light in the eye.

All the good times, all the bad,
full of anguish, wet and dry,
are now but moments past,
as time passes bye and bye.

Velvet horns seen so briefly,
as a buck eluded sight,
silently through the brush,
as day turned into night.

Love that could have lasted,
a lifetime for what it's worth,
became mistaken moments,
passion never birthed.

Mighty swirl of water,
big fish on the hook,
when line broke suddenly,
didn't even get a look.

Graduations so many,
overcoming phases rife,
anticipation and anxiety,
entering new phases of life.

Grasp those moments tightly,
savor them while they last,
they will be gone quite quickly,
become a part of your past.

Ron,this poem says so much ! WOW !!!!!. As time goes by and age becomes more of a factor in our existence , I think many remember the days when we were younger and looked at life in a different way. Time and happenings have a way of changing us and the way one perceives things. The poem has a lot of insight as well as depth! Great write and we really do need to savor those special and unique times in our lives!
The picture is a good one and you sure looked handsome. M

Yes! Your poem makes me think and reflect, Ron. It also is bittersweet to me since I cannot stop time's passing and certain circumstances keep me apart from one I so love. Love and peace to you,

Regis

The past lives on in the photographs held in our minds. This tells the stories of life or lives in a lovely way.

Oh come on, Ron, you were never that young as you were in the pictures, but it was a good time remembered for you as memories are fleeting just as is life. As always a wonderful write giving us all a view into the past of you & yours. -e-

The line may have broke and the big fish got away like so many things in life do, but the memories clung to you, so all was not lost. Reminds me of " The Road not taken". What could have been, what should have been and what was...

Precious photos and memories! You and your brother look alike. Both are looking good in the photo!

The photos we take are like the poems we write, they bring back memories.
