We need to recruit a civilian corps of youth without job prospects into a well-paid international relief squad like the old Peace Corps. The Armed Forces need to reorganize to be able to deal with 21st-century threats like cyber wars and economic wars.

When Johnny comes marching home again, for the very last time, hurrah, hurrah! Just let the evil empires shrivel and shrink, while their misguided leaders take them to the brink. Ain't gonna support no military-industrial complex, cranks out armament with bully muscles to flex. While we grind up young lives in unnecessary wars, abandon lots of arms to our enemies' stores. Think that we can create nations to our bidding, while ancient hatreds ferment, waiting in hiding. Success in global strategy is not boots on the ground, it's through diplomacy and policing the bad that is around. Than a thousand soldiers bunkered and afraid in the night. we don't need no more PTSD to give our families fright! War in the future will be like a videogame. No macho men will risk lives in vain. The only way to fight terrorism is a surgical strike. War done with robots and software spike. G.I. Joe, Danny and Johnny will not have to go, the world will come together to fight a greater foe. save earth to the Eden that it was--restore, not war. We fought over for millennia uncounted before. Amazing poem!
War ought to be not done. As you so clearly point out, there are better ways to settle disputes than to snuff out human life.

GI Joe, yeah and he never even entered the service, let alone went to war. He is a coward and very weak, which our fatal enemies see very well. What are we going to about it???

Your ahead of your times here Ron, but then again maybe not. I do believe we are fighting wars very different then those of our fore fathers, and I do believe we may have a fighting chance, if we all pool on the same side, though robots are amazing, I think humans are even more amazing. I'm rooting for the survival of the human race. I'm sure you are too, dear poet, Thank you for sharing your talented pen today, :)

At least poets can dream. The Millennium, prophesied in Holy Writ, tells of a time when the earth will become Edenesque once again. As it is, in the here and now, with the incredible development of drone technology, facets of warfare are already fought like video games. It's kinda surreal.

I'm a pacifist and I appreciate anyone who is against war. Maybe the answer is to write against it in a literary way like this. Think what we could have done with the trillions of dollars spent on fighting in Afghanistan without any positive effect. And all our soldiers killed? Sorry about that. We will eulogize them and tell stories about their bravery, but why were they sent there in the first place?

Great poem! It would make a good marching song. All those soldiers could be an army of tree planters, habitat restorers, wetlands rehabilitaters, and much more. We'll need an army to reforest the burns here in California! I'd rather think of nature being restored than plan for continuing war at all.

A solid poem with a strong message that I pretty much agree with. Who needs these wars in foreign climes with their own set of problems, their own culture and attitudes, and their own prejudices. I have lived among them. I know.
