Fond memory of the music and lost love in 1968.

Warm Walls

We drove up to The City,

Baghdad by the Bay.

My ride was big and classy,

there was no other way.

She was a beauty by my side,

filled with Nordic pride.

I thought about marrying her,

a thought I could not hide.

The Summer of Love was over,

but not its vibrant hippie jive.

We stopped at the Swiss Chalet,

an unlikely rock 'n' roll dive.

Ordered drinks and to the dance floor,

when the music burst forth, serene,

the walls were warm and fuzzy,

we danced, a mesmerizing scene.

She said her drink was watered-down,

the bartender kindly obliged.

Our dancing night was over,

to my studio apartment we arrived.

With the music playing to our dance,

she seemed to come to me just so,

but in our passionate embrace,

she called me Eric and said no.

Our night together was over,

I took her home to her place.

After a week away at a NYC wedding,

she disappeared without a trace.

I really love this piece Ron…
I too love the “walls were warm and fuzzy”…
such intuitive writing…
Those days were so memorable…and stained
within our memories forever…it all hit the right notes back then
literally!
“She called me Eric and said no..”
This says much about this ‘Nordic beauty…’
You were a gentleman Ron…she was lucky…
With someone else it could have been a different ending…

She was so drunk she couldn't even remember your name. Haha!!! Well, it's her loss. You deserved better.

Hi, just wanted to let you know I keep up with all your poems, just don't always comment, because I open them directly from the email, which doesn't require login. I enjoy them though, they keep getting better.

She called me Eric and said no! Hahaha hilarious! Good one!

I can hear the music playing in the background. Well written.

I didn't begin to come of age for a decade or so after that so I can't really identify with the scene you recreated. And though I've never had the "win some, lose some" experience (my "some" just never happened) I could still feel your long ago disappointment and, perhaps, a bit more of the disillusionment that comes with the passing of time. Sometimes, though, "win some, lose some" turns out to be "lose some, win some" when all is said and done.

quite often I wonder about people in my lives that
stayed memorable especially those that have touched my heart
just so. Sometimes pardon the old cliche, like two ships
that pass in the night. Still, our memories are bright as
every Ron, aren't they, thank you for this interesting write.

Amazing, Isn't it, Ron; how that one true love does not dissapear in time bur lays inbreeded within our deepest and oldest memories forever.

Now, even after seventy years are past, a day does not pass when I do not think of Susa, when last I saw her was seventy years ago.

Now I know I would not know her if I saw her, if, at her age (86 now) were even alive.

To me I still see her as my beautiful fifteen year old girl.

I believe some people are sent in our lives for lessons and some for blessings. Beautifully written Ron

I love the term ‘walls were warm and fuzzy.’ How delightful! This reads eagerly and contains numerous surprises, tellingly speaking of the ‘gentleman’ in the main character taking his Nordic beauty home after being called Eric, instead of shoving her out the door and slamming it behind her. Bigger surprise would be if the narrator’s name was Eric. Very engaging write, Ron. ~~ djl

Your poem does elicit fond memories of those times and the great music therefrom. And I loved the music of the Grateful Dead as well as that of many other fine bands... The Doors, Led Zeppelin, The Who, Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, Deep Purple, The Beach Boys, Simon and Garfunkel, Chicago, Blue Öyster Cult, etc... Thank you for the memories, Ron. All the best,

So goes like stories for many of us. You gotta watch out for those "NYC weddings" though. Knew another with the same MO. But, hey, better to have loved and lost than to not to have loved at all... as they say. With a watered-down drink and calling you Eric, that bartender must have slipped her some good stuff, eh? There's probably another story here for you to write about her, right?
