 Time is a Gift

Time is a gift, which cannot be re-gifted,

A gift that is given whether deserved or not,

A toy, if you will, to be played with or ignored,

A thing to be used to its fullest or wasted at will.

In our youths, boredom ate away the hours,

We, in our innocence didn’t see its value,

But once we used more of it up, finally getting wiser,

We complained that there is never enough.

For it is time which allowed the creation of memories,

And time which holds all of our memories dear.

Each lifetime lived and dream fulfilled,

Owes a great deal to the passage of time.

Just as the apple trees go from flower to fruit,

Through the seasons of each and every year,

Time allows the fruits of our labors to ripen,

And lends itself to the healing of souls,

And to rectifying and righting ones’ wrongs.

And time allows for each to find wisdom,

Somewhere among our fumbling footsteps,

And time allows the circle of life to continue,

In life of a child whose eyes are like ours.

You said it, boredom is very much within me these cold winter days.
I do not get out the apt enough for my satisfaction whether from snow storms or my car being in the garage like it is now. I wish I could get this boredom to go away, even though I have the computer and read lots of books.

Fabulous work and crafting, Karen. You have woven a seamless piece that brings together both wisdom and exhortation; it has an air or wonderment and celebration and I totally love the last line which is such a great note to end on... the continuity... the fulfillment... and that GREAT final word (h)ours!!!! :)) Keeps perfect momentum and rhythm throughout. And elicits the very best comments. You've certainly struck a chord here! xx

Yes, time is a gift, and as you say, time lost is never regained; thus, we should rejoice in every minute of every day and make it as meaningful as possible.

Hey! I resemble this remarkable poetry, Karen. Wasted day, wasted nights. Still, when it is all said and done, I did it my way and although I may regret some of my wasted days, I refuse to complain, I have progressed at least that far . . . Good work!

A poem that one reads as looking at an hour glass and wonder as the grain of sands left one place to replenish another, like life itself.

You are so right on this one Karen, and like most gifts it will with time break down, wear out or just cease to function but like most gifts....it is the thought that counts and the giver will always be remembered.

The analogies throughout this poem leave me feeling melancholy. As the saying goes "if I knew then what I know now" - fortunately we can have a little bit of that gift of time when we look at life through the eyes of small children. Wow!

God bless you. Kathy

Mentors and sundials...two of the most important items of the wisdom keepers, Karen...to share wisdom and knowledge to future generations is paramount to the growth and continuity of culture...and healing takes seasons to sprout a new soul, in spirit, mind, and body...just look the sandstone capstones and pedestals and the arches in Utah...time tells of the erosion which nature heals its own formations and chisels them into Gaia's art...Time is a Gift ticks with much wisdom...thanks for taking the time to give us the gift of this poetry...be well.

Love,
Sage

I appreciate the philosophical point of view that you share within your verses here, Karen. Love and best wishes,
