TA-DA-DA, TA-DA-DUM!
ta-da-da, ta-da-da, ta-da-dum ta-dum-tum,
he's marching to the beat
of a Brand New Drum.
he used to call the shots himself;
he thought he knew what was best.
when he opened up his eyes
and the light shone in,
he saw his life as an ugly mess.
the bass had morphed to moaning,
the rhythm blurred to a whine.
there was no music in his soul
to tap and pa-pum and beat out the time.
he needed inspiration, a spark to light the flame.
well, he found the answer for his need
when he cried out Jesus'Name
When he opened his heart to Jesus
and handed over his sin,
He heard a song of cleansing grace
in clear, strong notes of PEACE for him!
Then it gathered up a rhythm of sins --
one-by-one departing,
erased from this fresh melody
as the notes of JOY were starting.
AH, he opened wide his arms then
to embrace a life of PEACE,
and he felt the song e x p a n d i n g
to the world before his feet.
He couldn't hold the song inside;
it was born to reach the world,
so he picked up both drum sticks --
tap-a-tap-tap,
and the song of joy unfurled!
He tapped and he sang and he beat out the tune
of forgiveness -- he'd waited so long!
And his listening Friend Jesus,
heard it and smiled,
for HE had written the song.
ta-da-da, ta-da-da,
ta-da-dum, ta-dum-tum !
he's marching to the beat
of a brand new drum!
"He has given me a new song to sing,
of praises to our God. Now many will hear
of the glorious things He did for me,
and stand in awe before the Lord,
and put their trust in Him."
(Psalm 40, verse 3, Living Bible )

I love the twist within this poem, beginning the work with the image of a man, beating a drum of his own independence, and then, advancing into the meaning when he chose to allow Christ into his life, thus walking to a beat of a "different drum."
Brilliant work.
Have a great day,
Jill
