It's another Farmers' Market Day!
It seems the whole town's gathered on the Square!
You find cheerful, friendly faces all around,
see pretty sights, hear happy sounds,
But at noon, a straggler sighs -- There's no one there."
They say our town's dead; there's nothing left;
They'd eat their words if they stopped by today.
Sikewalk tables are piled high with produce;
red, yellow, green, so much to choose,
But at noon, they pack their wares and drive away.
Better days once reigned in our home town;
another trip downtown was worth the walk;
Your neighbors and acquaintances were strolling,
baby carriages were rolling;
You could always find a friend to stop and talk.
Times sure have changed in old Shamokin;
too many vacant stores make people frown.
Still, Market Day seems a lot like the old days,
a busy town, friendlier ways,
Till noon bells chime and
the past comes tumbling down.
"I keep thinking of the good old days of the past,
long since ended.
Then my nights were filled with joyous songs.
I search my soul and meditate
upon the difference now."
(Psalm 77:5, 6 - The Living Bible)
Much Love,

What an excellent way to depict what's happening all over the country today, especially in small towns. I loved this, as sad it as it was. I pray for better times to come, a healthy economy and a safer life. And maybe even the Market days of long ago.
Love, Micki
Thank you so much for the trip down Memory Lane. I had a blast!
More, please!
