Family in Crisis

It was a time of heartache for me. I was so sure that rebellious children were always a result of parents' failures. I had to learn that God has given each person the free will to choose the paths they will take. It was a hard and heartbreaking lesson.
However, it was not the end; watch for the next "chapter" in my life, to be shared in the near future.

In the years of our great tribulation,
it seemed that our family lay ruined.
As solitary watchman on the wall,*
my defenses crumpled in tear-stained gloom.
Meticulous plans for succeeding
in nurturing their five young lives
Dissolved in sodden heaps of discarded morals,
defiance, rebellion and strife.

When had my prayers become worthless?
Had the lessons we'd taught been in vain?
The family unit we'd treasured
had imploded, with weeping and pain.

Many a day I sought refuge alone
to cry in lament for my own.
Dear husband, sweet children, what poison destroyed
the haven that had been our home?

As I cried out to God in my anguish,
He led me to read in His Word
how His strength is made perfect in weakness
,
and the cries of His children are heard.
If it had not been for the Lord, I read,
(still, I echo the Psalmist's refrain).
Then He giveth beauty for ashes, it said,
as a flicker of hope rose, a small, steady flame.

As a still, small voice whispered within me
of a love that would never depart,
With the balm that's found only in Jesus,
He tenderly mended my heart.
The path where He led was relentless and steep;
the enemy wrought heartache and loss;
But my God, in His limitless mercy,
walked beside me and carried my cross.

And now a word to you parents.....bring them up with the loving discipline the Lord himself approves....
                                 Living Bible,  Ephesians 6:4

*Ezekiel 3:17, Isaiah 62:6--Watchmen were stationed on the walls of Jerusalem to guard and give warning of danger; it was also used in a spiritual sense.

You speak for a multitude of families.
And pointing them to help in High Places, which you have experienced first hand.
May your words continue to be blessing,

Connie you hold a special place in my heart. The words you write are so true to the world we live in. Kids can't be kids anymore. The terrible twos have become ADHD, give the child a pill to calm him down. So many children left to fend for themselves that they become rebellious to authority. Your words speak to so many. May God bless you every day of your life.

Beautifully put, Connie. Sad how parents don't even care for or discipline their kids nowadays ...

(((HUGS))) and much love, your friend in Texas, Karen Lynn. :(

Know too many like this; live next door to such parents ... then people wonder why kids are the way they are ... D'OH!!

Well written Connie. You know it is written "Bring them up in the ways of the Lord and when they are old they shall not depart." Of course he didn't say what may happen during puberty.
God bless,
Lew

Connie,

How beautiful and sad. I'm glad you found God to help you through your trials. Remember, God only gives you trials he knows you can handle. God Bless, my friend.
