Journey on a Golden Street
His long, tiring journey was over --
a story his loved ones would tell --
and he had gone to a better home,
the place where God's glory dwells.
When he saw his Savior there waiting,
he fell down at His feet to adore,
to lift up his praise in Christ's presence,
and weep till his tears were no more.
His heart was too full to be silent,
but his thoughts were too sacred for words;
He searched for a song of boundless joy;
none was worthy, of all he had heard.
Then he heard an echo of voices --
all the angels were singing His song --
"Hallelu, hallelujah!" filled the air
and he found himself singing along.
Jesus reached toward him and smiled;
He said, "Come," lifting him to his feet.
The angels in chorus sang, "Hail to the King,"
as they walked in companionship sweet.
There was so much He wanted to show him
in His beautiful city of gold,
wondrous mansions, and springs of pure water,
and bounteous treasures untold.
If you saw him there, you would marvel,
for his body is whole, young and strong;
and the sorrows he knew are forgotten
as they're talking, and walking along.
Jesus eagerly shows him His heaven,
with its marvelous sights and sounds
but he is content in Christ's presence,
oblivious to all that surrounds.
He's enthralled just to be with Jesus,
home with Him, right where he belongs.
His eyes are aglow with the light of God's love,
his heart in accord with the angels' songs.
It's a journey surpassing all others,
overflowing his soul with pleasures replete,
a journey that is only beginning
as he walks with the King on His shining gold street.
"For God loved the world so much
that He gave His only Son,
so that anyone who believes in Him
shall not perish but have eternal life."
