The joy of becoming a new mother. Written in 1976 on the birth of Brandon Neiswender to Debby and Scott

He's the first, and so precious!
Tiny -- you wouldn't believe it!
and perfect -- ten fingers, ten toes!
He is more darling than any baby ever,
and brighter than anyone knows!

His eyes peep up at me so sweetly,
squinting and trying to see.
He's probably wondering, "Who are you,
and what are you doing to me?"

I know how a mother's love feels now,
for I've become "more than a wife."
He'll call me his Mommy --
what a wonderful title!
Sweet baby, you've changed my whole life!

Our wait was long, and many times,
we dreamed of our coming little one.
We chose 2 names with the greatest care
for a dainty daughter or a rugged son.

In thanks-giving to Christ who had saved us,
and was sending a baby to love,
We vowed to be faithful as parents,
to teach him to serve God above.

And I think as I rock our sweet baby
of our Father, who loves girls and boys,
Who sends them to mothers and fathers
to share in the greatest of joys!
