Kate’s metaphoric, murderous rampage,
Has left Authorsden a killing field,
But now, she’s opened a new page,
Time for Poet Killer to be killed!
But first order, a description in detail,
Of powers and traits of the devious Kate,
Blonde, represents all things female,
With power wrested from former mate.
She is sovereign female wisdom, truth,
And is The Most High Goddess, of course,
Fertility, life, beauty and youth,
Female mysteries, a primordial force:
Cycles of Time as present, future and past,
Cycles of Nature as life, death and rebirth.
Potential energy, earth connection, cast
As a constant union of heaven and earth.
And now I must tell a tale most weird,
Relate dastardly deed, error in Kate’s plan.
She sat on Leland’s knee, stroked his beard,
Sucked core knowledge from the man.
She had no clue of the imminent threat,
Energy of raging thoughts in his head,
She kissed him deeply, when their lips met,
On vast powers, unknowingly fed,
And received, with symbol of manhood,
Current thoughts of her destiny intact,
Kate now reflects myth, not to her good:
Her hair turns brown and ugly, in fact,
And soon, Kate’s fair and holy image,
As symbol of female wisdom and power,
Will fall and her captured soul engage,
A hideously snaky monster will flower.
She retreats to hideaway in silence,
As nature’s forces, by man, are conquered,
Ultimate act — domination, vengeance —
By Leland, hero would not be deterred.
But he works and plans not solely alone,
Aid from Athena, symbol of man’s holdings —
Female helpmate, supportive, a clingstone,
His vine, subordinated, submissive enfoldings.
Fem-traitor Athena guides him on the task,
Magic winged sandals, gives him for speed,
Strong pouch and an invisibility mask,
Heroic-male courage, skill for the deed.
For if upon Kate’s face now, man should gaze,
To rigid stone he will instantly change.
So our hero prepared his task for days,
As very far his search would range.
To Libya’s Lake Tritonis he flies,
Where he travels through thick forest,
Passing statues of Kate’s beastly allies,
He finds where she’s reclined for rest.
Hero creeps where the Gorgon sleeps,
Past stone pillars — dead lovers, her honor.
At Kate with Athena’s mirror peeps,
Swings his crescent sword blade upon her,
With never a direct look at her face,
Severs her head with mighty blow,
Inserts the head, strings tightly lace,
And flies home with his pouch in tow.
So Kate, symbol of woman’s power,
Head enshrouded so no man will see,
Becomes dependent, supportive flower,
Ever dominated devotee.
Some will read this and say, “In your dreams!” Others will recognize the ancient Greek mythological drama of the war between the sexes, the metaphor of Medusa and Perseus. I have poetized a modified version of the story and changed the original names to expose the guilty. LOL
