As I lay on the pre-op bed
awaiting my turn for the
surgical procedure room,
I began telling stories,
sharing some smiles and
spoken word Art.
To my room they pushed
As I was talking all the
time. Opps...I have
another audience, a doctor
and two nurses I had never
seen before. At this time
I must have been testifying.
I saw tears on the nurses face.
I saw on a screen my intestines.
I said good I'm going to have
much more fun...watching to see
what I look like turned inside out.
A nurse said. "you won't see it".
Strange, I thought, and then
I remembered, while I was signing
a computer pad, someone had
given me meds in a hyperdermic
injection.
I woke up in post op. How long
I was there, I don't know. My
new friends applauded as I was
dressed and prepared to go. I
shared love with them all, and I
look forward to seeing them again.
I believe the last I was reciting was
'Mother to Son', by Langston Hughes.
My ending is: Serve your God, Serve
your country. Go on boy shine your light.
Make mama proud of you.
I thought about the ending of,
my poem, 'Get Well Soon', which
ends with Follow the Light...Live the
light, THE LIGHT IS IN YOU!
