Riding the Dragon

                                                 Red Dragon

 

A red dragon sounds the salty deep

No sunlight ever reaches.

It scarcely knows I cling to

 Its hissing scales

As we ride the tides below—

chaotic cross currents

And we surface opalescent

in amphibious light.

 

The reptile coils then unfurls great wings

Twists in double helixes

Oh how the dragon sails.

Membrane wings beating

 

As my salty skin dries I see

Deep blue and white

Earth an apple below

Desirable beyond belief.
