A little child asked me once, "Where is God?" I didn't have an answer then, but years of asking myself that question led me to write this poem.
Where Is God?
Where is God?
Is he far up in the heavens above?
Is he in the sky, in the clouds
Raining down sunshine with his love,
Letting us know he is there?
Where, I beseech, is God?
Hiding somewhere off in space
Listening to everyone’s prayers
Ready to fill them with his loving grace,
Sprinting to each at the speed of light?
Won’t someone tell me--where is God?
Omnipresent and available to us all
Does he have a magic computer linked to us
So he can answer every call
Through mental telepathy?
I know He is somewhere, but where is God?
His blessings keep coming my way
But I can’t find where he dwells
As he answers my prayers when I pray?
Oh God, I’m so selfish I know
It isn’t enough that you answer my prayers
I keep asking you to show me a sign
Show me your loving face
When you relieve my cares.
A VOICE IN THE DEPTHS OF SILENCE:
My child, look in the mirror, he said,
And there you will plainly see
Not a Godly face such as mine
But one that reflects all that I am
The mirror of ALL THAT YOU CAN BE.
SELFISH ME, STILL CONFUSED:
Then where are you, dear God
When I look at my earthly face?
Why don’t you show yourself
Like part of the human race?
LIKE A MIRACLE I UNDERSTOOD:
Like an electrical shock it came to me,
The Almighty is everyplace, everywhere
In every person, every twig and sprig of grass
In everything we touch and see or share.
In the mountains and in the streams
Like the silence of a breeze
God is always there, unseen
Felt as powerfully as strong winds
Whistling through the trees.
He’s the gardener tending to the flowers,
The doctor tending to ills
The father of all nature and mankind
His love scattered across every valley and hill.
He is in your life and mine
Ever present for all your needs
With enough strength to go around
To guide and direct you in your deeds.
He gives you the freedom of choice,
Choose him or the devil if you must,
But whatever choice you make,
Will strengthen you, or destroy your trust
In the ability to overcome life’s hardships.
You said it, true to be, God is everywhere we are. he is there for us always. I like the words to this write and am going to save it to read over and voer again. It is amazing to know our God, isn't it?
Thank you, Ms. Cooper, for writing this exquisite poem. It has become politically correct for those who believe in nothing (but themselves) to challenge and denigrate anyone who believes in a Judeo-Christian philosophy. Your poem is a poignant, inspirational, and helpful reminder that God is within us all … if we look closely at the evidence.
Thanks for this God is all when I be still I hear the voice of God. When I look in the mirror I see the face of God. When I look into my dogs eyes I see the face of God. Thanks for this reminder.
Hugs Angela
since god is omnipotent, you also find "him" in the eyes of a cancer patient, the blood spilled upon a battlefield, the cries of an abused child, the dreams of a madman or the destructive turbulence of an imploding planet ... "he" is also within love, knowledge, creativity, scientific exploration ... indeed god is everywhere ...

Brilliant. God is in the face of a child, and many others too, his fingerprints are universal...
Beautifully serene photograph of bright sunshine or God's love shining through. Yes, God is everywhere, in everything created. He has passed on his love, wisdom, patience to all who stop to listen. Thank you!
Beautiful write dear friend! Enjoyed this very much. My four year old granddaughter the other day asked a similar question. I asked her a question, I proceeded to ask her after her answer...your not telling nanny a fib are you? She shook her head no, I realizing that she wasn't being completely honest asked her if I should ask God, because He saw everything and He would know if she was telling the truth! She then asked where is He, I don't see Him. She was a bit nervous and replied, yes nanny I did it...while looking up into the air and over her shoulder! Since then she has thought twice before being dishonest. Loved this write!

This is outstanding Jeanette! Standing and applauding!! I love this, because I think we all ask this question from time to time. I know you've answered this question for me with this write.
Absolutely stunning! Thank you.
Hugs, Laura
Yes, God is every where Jeanette, He is in everything He created...He lives amongst all of us. This is one truly wonderful inspirational writing...I loved the magnificent images and the voice you've brought to this piece. I also liked the rhyme & rhythm...interesting to the very last line. Thanks for sharing such a great piece with us.
You have posed the question of the ages: Where is God?
You are not alone in this. Many of us spend a lifetime asking the same simple question, only to find the answer is as simple as you have revealed to us: "My child, look in the mirror...that reflects all that I am..."
The author Gilbert Keith Chesterton (1874-1936) gives us his view of Where is God: "The hidden room in man's house where God sits all year."
Chesteron also tells us something about God's love for us even before we are born: "...a thing created is loved before it exists." Any mother carrying her unborn child will tell you this truth.
As for me, I reveal my belief in the words of Josefina Camarillo, my tormented heroine in my novel The Paradise of Revenge: "Over my head I hear music in the air. God is everywhere."
And so I lend my voice to your wonderful poem, Jeanette: "We are never alone. God is everywhere."
Keep on posting, my dear. Your words are magical and wonderful to read, your work honest, profound and stirring to the soul!
