It's best to face the future with optimism. Too much time, labor and blood is invested in it's heritage. Everyone fails to realize we are the strength and voice of this great country. By all means get out there and vote for the best possible candidate. Even if you feel the choice isn't that great. The President is chosen by the Electorial College even if the popular vote states otherwise. If your not pleased with your Senators and Congressmen/Congresswomen at their next election change them also. We have the power to right all these wrongs and don't let anyone tell you otherwise. The road to perdition. I like your poem full of questions. Yes, this country was started with great men but now needs a woman's touch in my opinion. But I could go Obama if he is the nominee. Either way I believe that the right of Habeous Corpis will be reinstated and the Constitution will not be subverted, ignored and maligned. Excellent write. Liz

Very well written piece, yet it seems far too many in the last seventy five years are more out for themselves than for what is best for the salvation of this country....

I have made my choice. Two speaking as one want to keep chipping away at our freedoms, while the other, who has his faults, has the countries best interest at heart and it's he who will get my vote.

And things aren't any better here in Italy. Not too long ago, they threw out Berlusconi, claiming he was a thief and voted in Prodi . Now, they've thrown Prodi out...and guess who they've re elected? Yep...Berlusconi.

saddens me to think of that as well, this country was founded by great men indeed, but to day when you look around many of them are just dying for attention like some celebreties....

I don't even feel like voting, but I did this May. I don't believe anyone's vote counts anymore, but have prayed about it and God will put whomever he wants in and already knows who is next President. A shame our country is downfalling, but what can we do?

All the Presidential candidates are under cartels' bosses. The Election system favors corruption... The only thing left for the people to assure that THE SLAVEYARD that the cartels are building doesn't continue, is through the Congresspersons; by elected them and supervise their actions... NEVER GIVING THEM A CHANCE TO VIOLATE THE CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, as happens in the present and in the past 15 years.

I have enjoyed the reading "The Road to What....".

America is in trouble, and it doesn't help that all three of the presidential candidates will not tell us what they will do in times of crisis - all they do is make promises that will never be kept or bicker between themselves. Good questions and you are correct, America is in trouble. I wouldn't want to be president and inherit all the crap that was left behind. I think all the candidates are smart enough, but I don't see a true leader in any of them. If we could find a person that possessed all the positives from the three we have running... that would be the person of choice.

Very sadly, having worked for our government far too long, and knowing the mentality of 'our leaders' today, to me, the future looks extremely bleak. And I truly wish it were not so.
