So many times we try to forget the past and go on, but it is always there. I too have often kept the tears hidden so other don't see the pain I feel. A broken trust can be very painful, as can the loss of someone. Very touching. I tried to leave a comment for one of your other poems but hit post by mistake. I'm sorry for that. This is truly a touching and heartfelt poem, Eileen. I once read a poem that has helped me through some very hard times and I would like to share it with you. I have no idea who wrote it, but I wish I did.

Tears

Tears on the outside

Crying is good. Cleansing. Never keep the tears inside. Let them out and then you can move on.

A broken trust is somehow invalidating to us as a person. Somewhere in the back of our mind we wonder "if I had baked a better cake, if I had been in better shape, if I had a better sense of humor, if I was prettier, if I had grown my hair long, if I didn't wear my heart upon my sleeve, would they have kept me?" Of course the answer to all of those is no, the problem is not with you, it is with them. It is they who were not honest with their feelings, they who told us all the pretty lies and they who somehow don't see themselves as worthy of the love you have for them. Healing comes from within and also from forgiving them their weakness. That is not the same as letting them back into your life, though; there are some things that can never be forgiven to the point of having a viable relationship again. Moving forward is never easy, but you deserve to persue happiness in your life. Read Peter Paton's post on the board Cold, Cold Heart. It is alot about this and alot about healing.
