Silent Guest
When you least likely expect it…
Her presence is near.
How do you know she’s there you may ask…
When a door gently opens,
A light turns on or soft steps you will hear.
Who is this silent guest you may be wondering…
There is a story behind this tale,
One I’m sure you’ll enjoy,
So listen to this story I’m about to tell.
You see the house in which I live,
Well it once was owned before me…
The lady whom it was built for, she loved it beyond the normal.
A kind and gentle soul she was,
And away from this house one seldom did see her.
She didn’t leave the farm very often,
Only on occasions…this rare sight was seen.
The doctor and church on special occasions,
However the trips were few and far between.
As months turned to years her health began to fail…
Passing from this life to the next,
A sign was placed in the yard…
This home is for sale.
I loved it from the first visit,
I must have it I told my spouse.
There is a story that goes with it,
The salesman said with a grin…
The story goes there is a visitor who comes around…
Only every now and then…
Who is it? I asked in wonder…
The lady who lived here before…he quickly added.
But I hear she was giving, caring, and…
And what I asked still stunned and a bit frightened,
Well, in the back room is where she passed!
Six weeks later we moved in…despite the story…
And every now and then…
When no one expects it, a door silently opens, a light turns on…
And sometimes the television changes.
It’s okay I quickly reassure,
It’s just Agnes…
Now don’t you worry, this was her favorite haven.
She means no harm…
Agnes is our silent guest.
