I liked the connections and interconnections between bible, the people who owned, their cartography, and so on. This has the making of a novel. Why don't you write a book on this!

Absolutely stunning write, Joyce, and what a find in the family Bible. It's good of you to share with us the contents of the note--the amazing faith of the father and the assurance to his daughter that they will meet again in heaven, is also reassuring for us.
"For the Word of God is living and active, sharper than any double-edged sword". Blessed are you, Joyce, because you have been given eyes to see and to reveal to others HOW exactly this double-edged sword of faith works. A most fabulous and concrete example... But, the truth is, that God works like this in the patterns and details of our lives every single day, and these "hot-spots" are as the revelation of the "paper chase" of living Word that you so readily found in your beloved Bible. Dear Joyce, I really enjoyed the story! Family heirlooms, Bibles, letters from the past are special treasures to be kept, and loved. I have a couple of old family Bibles that have been handed down to me. I have leafed through them, but have really never really "Looked" at all the pages. I will now. What a wonderful gift from your aunt! I was writing a story about my mother's childhood just before she passed away. I never got it completed. I wish I had started writing it sooner, so I'd have those memories of times long gone to share with me family.Thanks for sharing this great story with us. .....M

Truly beautiful Joyce! I inherited my grandmothers' family bible when my mother died and it is my most valued possession. The names of each birth and death has been recorded down through at least 100 years. I continue to write and record as my grandmother and my mother did. I will pass the bible to my daughter and leave her a note as my mother did me. It is an old tradition that I beleive is going out of style. With this old bible my grandmother found the faith to live and survive and raise 12 children on practically nothing BUT faith, my mother found her salvation there, and I have found my faith that is rooted deeply in their love for God, I pray my daughter and her daughter will do the same. This is so beautifully wrote, it kept me wondering, who the bible belonged too. I am guessing it was your grandmothers, is that right? I love the way you wrote this, it brings back wonderful memories. I felt like i was right there looking through it with you!

Joyce, this is a warm, and loving story that shows accounts of the many trials--and happiness--that all families must deal with.
In my youth, every family I knew had an old tattered family Bible. It was once the method by which they could prove when they were born--for social security purposes--since birth certificates weren't issued back during the generation of my parents. I bet there are many stories out there in those old family Bibles.
Rosetta was born in 1909 as the youngest of ten children. The family had more laughter than money and neighbors would knock on their door to ask, "Can we come in and laugh, too?"
