There is a very good reason why we just cannot part with certain things.......

                           Sentimental value.........

Garage of ours needs attention as I recall,
today is the day determination takes hold.
Box upon box neatly piled to store,
clothing and toys that are much too old.

Soft baby blankets in plastic bags,
rattles, balls, bonnets and baby shoes.
Teething rings, crib sheets, baby books,
           sorting through, how to choose.

Pillows of hearts, circles and squares,
covered in satin and surrounded with lace.
Two bands of elastic to hold baby bottles,
while babies snuggled their angelic face.

Pressed and packaged for all to see,
      christening gowns looking like new.
Little boy tuxedos look size one,
with bow tie and shoes white not blue.

Bumper pads inside the crib they went,
protection from harming those tiny heads.
      Puppies, kitties, bunnies and ducks,
all watched over babies sleep in their beds.

Pink, yellow, white, light blue, mint green,
tiny ribbons all stacked in a row.
Sailor suit, cowboy suit, cowgirl suit too,
put them back in the box, they cannot go.

There is a reason why these
                   boxes were moved,
from place to place leaving them sealed.
Such sentimental value, no price can be had,
another piece of tape where the box pealed.

The title caught my attention because I wrote a poem titled, Sentimental Value also. Both poems are quite different, yet each one unique. I loved your poem a lot. Great job!

I saved for years then when I started moving every year or so, finally I gave up, gave it to the child it belonged to and was done with it. My oldest probably saved everything I think the others found good homes for the stuff. Lady J

Karen, this is of sentimental value...to all of us Mother's. We don't want to part with the reminders of long ago. We cherish and love each article and can't imagine throwing away even one. This is written with sincerity and honesty and I can so relate to it. This is touching and heart rendering because of the memories it contains.

Your precious treasures, neatly boxed and saved, are the remanents of joys you've lived and shared, and brings to mind old homes with attics where people store "things" they want to keep. Then years later future generations plow through the treasures and wonder on the wonderful memories created in the carefully hoarded treasures.

So many old things that seem much better than what is produced today. Alas our young ones always prefer buying the modern. Perhaps that is as it should be, but then perhaps not. Fine poem. Victor
