Those Lips

Have you ever noticed someone and couldn't take your eyes off of them?

Poem Artwork

I was sitting in
our little neighborhood diner
that sat about 40 or so
and noticed a comely lady
about to have dinner with a friend.

She was facing me, talking
to her friend, about what I don’t know.
I wasn’t close enough to hear.

Not having the ability to read lips,
though I tried,
I couldn’t tell what she was saying,
couldn't take my eyes from
her soundless lips.

I was so mesmerized
by her silent, soundless lips
it was difficult to look
at her legs and ample breasts.
and the lady next to me was talking
on one of those damned
cell phones

So I was confronted with
those silent lips out of sync
with that pesky phone lady and.
the Japanese voice-over effect
was softening any enjoyment
I was getting from those lips,
those lips.

She glanced my way once,
crossed her legs
then continued talking
to her friend.

Probably told her about
the pervert who was
looking up her dress.

Rusty, that was very well written, and the snag at the end - masterful. I'm sympathetic, however, women who have pretty lips do fcinate me, but you add a new deminsion (?) when you try to lip sync at the same time. Youkain'tdodat... and not stare, man! You're probably lucky that you didn't get a new signal from that cell phone up side of your head. Gotta watch it, friend.

Have had a similar experience to Sara's...you brought the incident to mind. Excellent write. Guess men just can't help feeding their eyes, after all they get hungry too;-)...

I've had that happen to me. Once I was at dinner with my parents. There was a man sitting at a table kitty-cornered to me. He didn't stop watching me throughout the meal. I tried to ignore him, but everytime I looked up he was staring intently at me and my animated conversation with my parents. He got up and left the restaurant. A moment later the waitress came up to me with his business card. A note was written on the other side asking me to call him if I was interested. LOL...your story reminded me of that encounter. I never saw him again.

admiring a woman's lips is complementary ... looking up her dress is an entirely different issue ... it could be her friend was jealous you were mesmerized by her firned's face and perhaps told her a lie, unless you were staring up her dress also ... part of man's nature, i guess ... the art is doing it quickly ... staring is immature and unbecoming ...

well written, i enjoyed ...

Nice story, nice twist. Let's face it, man and pervert are synonyms.

One really should not stare, but I guess you get mesmerized you're in for it. Victor

A truly great and very interesting write, Rusty-friend. Being a woman, I always enjoy it when a man writes a poem like this, giving women an insight into their minds. Most of us women have had similar things happen, a man watches surreptitiously (or an out and out OGLE, like you did ... hee hee) and we wonder if it's because we're 'comely' or if we have spinach stuck between our front teeth.
Thank you for the peek inside.
Love,
CJ
