I don't often watch news, just because the media does paint such a black picture. The other day, I mentioned to my hubby that I hate the tone of voice they use to state a headline. They always draw out that last word, making it sound so ominous and important. This poem expresses the thoughts I was having - how they blow things out of proportion so easily...and gladly. Great work here:)

A look at history shows the press often trying to shape opinion. My worry is that bloggers are driving paper news out of business, leaving us without the checks and balances developed over the years to prevent false information being published.

Sinatra said, when on an Australian tour, that for one news-scoop all journalist will become prostitutes.
Landing planes don't deserve a line, crashing ones will provoke a piranha eating frenzy with disregard to the victims family, feelings or decorum.
We need that kind of journalism? Yes, like another hole on the head!

don't you find it amazing that many of the newspapers are going under? I think it is an indication people are waking up to the truth and refusing to be sheep led by media hysterics...remember they/the media are a profit generated business...greed comes before truth...stop buying, stop reading, stop watching, stop listening to them..

we the people...still have much to say :)

With you all the way on this one, and reading the other reviews it seems that most intelligent right-minded people are, too. Yes, media 'people' are in the main self-serving egoists and the bottom line is always their own success and survival...the ugly side of 'healthy' competition. They'd like to, but so far without success tried to destroy the world wide web, we might in the end need a news source like Radio Free Europe once was, to get the truth. I remember during the war a lone crippled person who could not fight hiding a philips radio in a niche of a sandstone wall to get the truth from the other side, the BBC, he promptly got shot. Real good news is priceless, we have forgotten that, by letting conglomerates own the source and distrubition, and of course the have an agenda, and who is there left to fight them, or tell the real story, they have made all the news business a lie. I would now not believe any of them even if they did tell the truth, how would I know. Democracy suffered terribly from such diminishing of reporting that which is truly important to an informed public and voter in the end.

Don't buy their papers, Don't listen to those you know have an agenda to rule this country, don't elect those that pursue this agenda when in office. We are guilty by who we vote for basing everything on the economy and the war, not the future of this Country. The next year will be the outline of what these elected officials will do with their power thinking they have a mandate from the people or just using that fallacy to do their best to socialize this Country by allowing illegal aliens to gain citizenship and thereby gain more votes to keep them in power. Great work Eileen but to few will agree with you. Keep up the good work time will show who is right and at what a price we will pay.

It is up to us at the receiving end of "mass media" to be more
discriminating and to support local-independents (a dying breed) whenever possible. The corporate stranglehold now evident among mass media producers like CNN, MSNBC, FoxNews, etc. is best challanged at the grassroots level. The lucky ones have access to the Internet & all those endless global news source alternatives...

Eileen, almost weekly I e-mail one of the major newspapers in the United States to enter my disapproval for how they distort the facts and attempt to make the news rather than report the facts - The "New York Times" is among the worst purveyors of lies and half truths -- join me, be bold and spend a few minute to write to one of them anytime you see a flagrant violation of ethics and truth -- it is vital that we, the public participate in making our nation great once again -- the television news shows are just as guilty -- they impact the opinions of millions daily with lies and the glossing over of issues Americans need to know -- great write, hard hitting and extremely important at this time in our nation's history -- may peace, love and great joy fill every moment of your life -- JMW

Ignor them and don't subscribe
I hate those bastards, like you said they6 tend to twist the truth
writing only what they feel is the rate getter
to their own opinion....its all about ratings
they'll place your name as the source of information
I always avoided making any statements to them
and they hated me for it.
