Poem Artwork

Under a glistening silver moon
At our first high school Valentine dance
Little did we know that very soon
We'd be caught in a sorcerer's romance

Heaven of  diamonds in starlit night
My partner held me firmly just right
So we could spin with pure delight
Enough to  soar to celestial heights

All went innocently until one dance
Mephisto waltz played us into a trance
One moment everything became askance
We were under Satan's Angels glance

We felt them taking over our place
And disappeared  without a trace
We had to watch them dance instead
Hovering like spectres overhead

Suddely we were back on the floor
Waltzing in the same place as before
We were confused dancing to Sibilius
Both of us were unusually aroused

When  Valse Triste came to an end
We left hurredly telling our friends
That I suddenly wasn't feeling well
Then made a beeline to the nearest motel

We made love the whole night through
In ways of which we never before knew
The Mephisto waltz had cast a spell
We wondered if we were  in heaven or hell...

in the dance halls of youth, fantasy's waltz was played out to the devil's jitterbug -- I love the imagery you created here Eileen -- innocence blended with the temptations from old Ned -- you have fabulous style in your poetry -- silky smooth, with delicately honed talons -- much peace and love to you my friend -- JMW

Love the details in this imagery. The sneaky exit at the end brings back memories. Nicely penned, Eileen!

It's so beautiful the way you make sensuous feelings come alive. Young love is so confusing. Aren't you doing the right thing because you are in love, or the wrong thing because it's how you've been raised.
