And Time Stood Still
September 1, 2011
By Rose Marie Rideout

I looked into your eyes,
so alive was your smile,
Then time stood still,
As you sat so meek and mild.

Where are you,
Why do you look away,
Then time stood still,
As though you’ve gone astray.

I speak your name,
You look off into another direction,
Then time stands still,
I feel a little rejection.

I look into your eyes,
The love you hold is there,
Then time stands still,
Though you know I still care.

You tilt your head, you know me,
Maybe not by my given name,
You say that you should know me,
I know you’re not the blame.

I’ll be back tomorrow,
Maybe we can chat, if you aren’t ill
Maybe you’ll remember for a moment,
Before the time stands still.

This pulls at the heart, expressing the sadness and hurt of the illness we know as Alzheimer's, dementia, and other tragic conditions. Well done, Rose! The last verse gives hope for a little more time to spend in lucid conversation.

Rosie, Rosie, really heart tugging poem. How hard it must be to see the eyes of one loved go blank at the sight of one once loved.

Great write cuz, capturing well the very real feelings of dementia, alzheimers and perhaps just peoples own reactions to living and being with ones we love who seem to have lost us.
