In Deep

Poem Artwork

The three of us walked up to the ridge
It was cold outside like inside a fridge
The snow fell all through the night
One white sheet sparkling bright

Only our footprints were to be seen
None in front none in-between
Wind and flakes create large banks of snow
They get so big you can't see high or low

Jack and Steve just saw me run
I took off like a shot from a gun
I knew the drift was grand and deep
I didn't care you sow what you reap

I launched myself as high as I could
With open mouths Jack and Steve stood
I disappeared into the drift of snow
They both wondered where did he go?

I looked up from inside my jam
Was in deep like a pearl in a clam
Steve and Jack let down a thin string
I'll be here until the thaw next spring

Come on guys pull harder just one more tug
I am really stuck fast feel like a plug
Finally I'm free what a rush look at my buddies neither talks
Then realize my boots stayed in got to walk home in my socks

Footnote

I am sure some of you are wondering if I went back in the springtime to see if my boots were still there. I have below a couple of different endings to my poem pick the one you think fits.

A: When I went back in the spring to see if my boots were still there, they had built a subdivision on that spot.

B: When I went back in the spring to see if my boots were still there, some Bunnies had made them their home.

C: When I went back in the spring to see if my boots were still there, Jack and Steve were already there jumping up and down each with one boot on.

D: I didn’t go look

Alas, these days, when I go back to a memorable spot, I usually not only find an entire subdivision sitting there, there's usually one of those damned 24-hour, Super Wal-marts there, too. (And I'd bet they sold yer boots - as new!!)

PS I much prefer the bunny rabbit ending!

you're lucky!!
Mind you boots are reknown for saving yer hide LOL...In NZ on the farms when it's been raining for like, 2 weeks solid, and you have to feed out...to the cows that is, often you get bogged in mucky paddocks, and without the gumboot that you just step up and out of...well, yer bogged haha. I had to be oiked up out by Grandfather as a little tacker...
So yer boots got left in the snow, better them than you MATE!! :)
