Once upon a time
I had a dear friend
I could call
At any hour
For any reason,
But no more.
I wonder,
Where has she gone?
How I miss her
And the comfort
She so unselfishly gave.
My world has grown
A little meaner
Without her in it
And sometimes
The periodic despair
That descends upon me
Seems so much bleaker
Than it once did.
If I could
I would tell her,
As I never did before,
How much I loved her
For her odd and quirky ways
And for her steadfast loyalty
When the world went awry.
I would tell her,
And hopefully
Leave little doubt,
How I cherished her
And the joy
She brought me.
