Here I lie
Wide awake
In the wee hours,
Sleepless and worried,
And bitterly regretting
The wretched mistakes,
The willful lack
Of sound judgment,
That have once again
Placed me
In financial jeopardy.
Just when
I thought I had found
A toe-hold of fiscal sanity
Temptation raised
It's evil head,
Seducing me into believing
I could handle
A common bank account.
Stealthily it silenced
The warnings born
Of past experience
And pushed away the reminders
Of the illness I bear,
Rendering me incapable
Of judicious thought
And sending me down
That long slippery slope
To ruin.
Relatable? yes. Uplifting, inspiring, joyous, quirky, pleasant? Not so much. Your writing is much more enjoyable when you're happier. Call a friend, take a walk, watch a sunset. Don't let the blues keep you down.
Financial uncertainty can render one sleepless, I know from experience. But rest assured you have company, for millions are in the same boat, wallowing in debt.
I guess some were not meant to have bank accounts or credit cards. It may be too great a temptation to spend. While I used those devices as well as my lifelong frugality to bring myself out of that situation and nights without worry, you may not be able to do that. So I suggest that you go back to just using cash or bartering as your only means of exchange. That way you will know when you are spending too much and getting rid of what you want in favor of what you really need.
Don't count on anyone to save you. You must do this on your own, and you can.
