A troublesome night
To say the least
When my worst fears
Are at last realized.
I should have listened
To the whispered shouts
Of my anxious gut,
I should have known
How precarious
My position was,
Instead I allowed myself
To be suckered into
A false sense
Of security.
Now, soon,
I will be homeless
And I'll be forced
To give up
My two most important friends,
My beloved dogs,
Copper and Sunny.
How will I bear
To say good-bye
To them who have
For so long been
My sole purpose
For living?
How can I abandon them
Who have given me
The only unconditional love
I have ever known?
How will I ever be able
To live with myself
