I was the Arnold Horshack
Of my seventh grade science class,
No doubt one of my teacher's favorites
For my accurate,
Though often imaginative, insights
Into the subject at hand.
This day it was a zoological question:
"What is the difference
Between an octopus and a squid?"
Mrs. Morgan asked, and instantly
My hand shot into the air,
"Oh! Oh! Oh!" I cried,
And she smiled indulgently
As she chose me to answer her query.
Rising to my feet I answered primly
And, I'm sure, self importantly,
"An octopus has only eight testicles
While a squid has ten."
Hysterical laughter
Immediately erupted,
And Mrs. Morgan's red face
Was superseded only by
My own.
