“Growing apart doesn't change the fact that for a long time we grew side by side; our roots will always be tangled.” Ally Condie

How I wish
I could
Turn back time
To those long ago days
Of innocence,
To that day
You told me
You loved me
With all the passion
A ten-year-old could muster.
I'm sorry I hurt you
By running away,
Disillusioned
Because my best friend
Saw me as a girl!

Oh! The missteps of youth! I will forgive you for not recognizing love at 10. Jimmy must've been one of those early bloomers when it came to love.

I have observed that many tomboys have turned into beautiful women with a better understanding of what men are because of their own boyhood as a young girl.

Those early childhood flirtations with love and emotions are always the sweetest of memories...the ones we often look back at even in our later years and think: "I wonder what would have happened..." Lovely poem that I am sure like it did myself turned other readers minds back to those days of our childhood.
