“But what we call our despair is often only the painful eagerness
of unfed hope.”
George Eliot
My life has been a labyrinth.
With trails going that way
And paths going the other
I've fumbled along,
Chasing dreams until they died
And changing course
When new ones were born.
I've refused to concede defeat,
Exhausting and wounding myself
With my efforts,
Needing to believe there was purpose
In my being
Until,
Crying copious tears of rage,
Frustration, and despair,
I begged to know,
“Why? What point is there
To this madness?”
But the words only echoed
Hauntingly into silence
With no reply from without
Nor from within myself.
Looking back through the decades
I can find no reasons why
Such cherished hopes,
Some born in earliest childhood,
Were allowed to titillate,
Promising... promising...
Only to vanish
When improbability became impossibility,
Seeming to prove the premonitions of the naysayers
Who first clipped my wings.
You are very intelligent and ambitious. Your work, like this poem, is superb. But perhaps, you have set goals that are far beyond your capability and require others to step in and help you achieve them.
I’ve known others who settled for what they had and found happiness. On the other hand, it’s okay to continue to dream and strive without expectations. That way when something comes along it will be appreciated all the more and not examined to see whether it is what you really want or not.
Unsolicited advice: Searching for love is like chasing rainbows.
Better: Review the facets of yourself that you like.
Then, Go about being true to yourself by displaying your best smile. Try to meet new people, go to new places, and speak well of those people, places, and things you like. Your new connections and possibilities could be like lighting up a Christmas tree. While you are basking in your own limelight, someone is bound to walk up to you and say: "Excuse me, but for a moment I thought you were someone I used to know. But deep down, you are someone I would like to get to know. Would you like to take a chance on a new friendship over a cup of coffee?"
Your answer: [if you feel a Zing] "I was holding out for a glass of wine. But coffee is OK. But only if you smile"... [or words to that effect]

TRUE STORY. Bella survived an abusive powerbroker father with organized crime ties, a drug-addicted mother and a physically/sexually abusive brother. Shocking & inspirational. When she couldn't cry, she tattooed a crying angel to cry for her.
Sepsis knocked her down and out. Faith, hope, and gave her the strength to get back on her feet. I am a Runner She fought the river of death They said she'd never run again
She proved them wrong...
