Never Too Late To Dream...

Mid Autumn's Night Dream
By La Belle Rouge

Happy Bday Sweet Knight

It was his birthday... once again.
Was it too late now to change direction?

This birthday was not one he welcomed
for the mirror told him his prime was past.
The silver of his hair and beard reflected
a man who had possibly outlived his dreams.
He felt unloved, unwanted, out of place
in a world that wanted him to simply forget
about youthful things like dreams and love.
The spirit of the Irish dwelt within him;
bubbles of joy, chains of dark melancholy.
Was he too old? Sometimes he felt old;
worn out like a winter coat with frayed seams,
but oft he felt as fresh as newly spun silk

An ancient poetic soul, a youthful romantic heart
At home in all places and displaced in time

He found her in a field of lilies, past her prime,
yet still beautiful in his eyes and heart.
“It’s your birthday!” she smiled with eyes and lips.
“Come dance with me... age is only a number.”
For in her thoughts he was a worthy man,
beautiful, distinguished of form and spirit.
Thinker of deep thoughts, poet of passion
Irish eyes of the poetess perceived his soul.
And so they danced as though their feet
were lifted by bright, buoyant fairy wings
and their hearts were as young as spring fawns
frolicking together beneath the ancient trees.

She whispered, “It’s never too late to dream”,
and if you yet breathe, it’s never too late to live”

Spectacular, Belle. If you've never read my poem "Images" it speaks to man's perception of himself.

I really like this one. Its positive and spiritually uplifting message is wonderful.
