The Oak
By La Belle Rouge

Somehow it had been planted
in the center of her path
many years before she ever
journeyed beneath its boughs

aged and gnarled its branches
had braved summer droughts
and had borne the frigid weight
of oft drifted winter snows

a tall old oak, an ancient tree
character alive in each twig
with life-sap that had risen
almost a century of springs

and fallen as many autumns
a place where she felt at home
in the shelter of its long shadow
a friend who shared joys and tears

a solid tree with deep roots
and strong wisdom hard earned
the earth is burdened with saplings
but enlightened oaks....they are rare

there is a reason the oak is called mighty. It is strong enough to carry the burdens of life both its own and those who live in it and use it as a resting place. you have given it its rightful place as the tree with a heart that beats both inside it and in those around it. Beautifully done.

The beautiful and sublime methaphor is so well written into this one that I had to read it several times finding it so wise of a thought. If life is good to us and we are good in life we have the privalege to become that oak...

Oaks, longer they live older they get, older they get more beautiful they are, because its strength protect the little birds offspring in many a nest.
