To Be Or Not To Be?

I’d rather be the one who’s used
than a heartless user be
I’d rather bear the broken heart
than another’s be broken by me

I’d rather give until it hurts
than carelessly take from another
It’s better to give love unrequited
than be incapable of being a lover

let me cry ten thousand tears
and not cause another pain
and when I suffer unjustly
help me count the loss as gain

if undervalued and misunderstood
we still own our self-esteem
and can rise above mistreatment
without being callous and mean

I’d prefer to keep my spirit warm
than to intentionally freeze another
to think the best until I can’t
and see each person as my brother

To trust in God above alone
when mankind lets me down
and not look for hopeless fear
when better things can be found

“for sufficient unto the day,”
said Christ “is the evil thereof”
why predict tomorrow with hate
when we can grace today with love?
