A Christmas Sonnet Story Of The True And Eternal Love Of A Lady And Her Knight.

Poem Artwork

The Christmas Watch

From the tower she watched for his return,
each window affording a different direction.
Thankful that of his death she'd not learned.
Fearful without her knight's bold protection.
So long he was gone and her bed grew cold.
Cold Winter had come and snow began to fall.
Without his touch she grew despondent, old.
Out into the void her wounded heart called.
It had been so long since she'd seen his face
warm agleam with the glow of love and lust.
She prayed to God for to give her grace.
If he didn't come home soon, die she must.
She remembered the oceans of his pale eyes
and the sound of his manly pleasured sighs.

When twilight fell, then night close behind
she left a candle in each window of the tower
and when she crept into her bed to find
it once again cold she prayed for the power
to hold onto life 'til they would meet again.
Her sleep was fitful into the deepening dark.
She knew their true love could never be a sin.
Once again she prayed in the loneliness stark
God would mercifully speed her lover home.
The nights grew longer and she felt despair.
Fierce winds shook the castle and moaned.
Would she meet her love and hold him there?
Where could he be, her warrior brave and bold?
Were their dreams to be a story never told?

Blessed Yuletide came on cold winter's wings
and Christmas Eve hastened to draw near.
She could not be cheered by holiday things
yearning for her dear knight soon to appear.
While wild winds round the castle whirled.
The stone walls moaned the windows shook
Fearful thoughts within sad mind swirled.
She would wait no longer, for him to look.
If he should survive the battle to perish yet
in the blinding blizzard with none to his aid
that she'd failed to find him she'd never forget
and so no fear of the darkness she displayed.
She'd go out into the dark to seek her lord.
Strapped on her armor, girded on her sword.

She braved the wind, she braved the snow
and endured the battle of freezing-cold night.
Which direction to travel she did not know.
There was none to help her desperate plight.
By lantern light she found him, buried in a drift.
Her warm kisses soon brought him back to life.
She thanked God for this precious Christmas gift.
Her heart would no longer know grievous strife.
The castle was scented of pine boughs and feast.
The joyful dancing went on through the night.
Lady and Knight knew love that will not cease.
They drank their fill of pleasure in candlelight.
So ends ancient tale of their love without end.
On each Christmas Eve yet raise a glass to them.

Honest love deserves every pursuit and undying dedication and Christmas Watch is a beautiful poetic dedication to such a love. What better way to celebrate the magic of Christmas than with the one true love of our lives.

Your poem is unique in the fact that the maiden did not wait tearfully by hoping for the best, but took matters into her capable hands and went out into the unknown cold dark to seek out her man. Cool and warm--like your story.

Belle you were always masterful at the sonnet and inspired me in this form years ago. Yes, very true you did. My favorite poem " Lady Godiva" was written by one of my favorite poets and a master of the sonnet. Tennyson. My favorite poet, as you should know, I made a grand exposition of in all his naked and grand glory nearly 10 years ago.
( the author of the psalms) I remember mom and dad telling me of King David. Like I told Jane earlier, sorry for rambling like that, and Merry Christmas, dear friend. lewis
