I entirely agree with Jude, dear friend: Consciousness needs to evolve more, and with it, our inner sense of responsibility and concentration of energies towards change from wrong to right, from unbalanced to harmonious growth. This haiku chain, and the image you illustrate and complete it with, are heart-wrenching and deeply painful to consider, yet, no soul can remain apathetic before the cruel reality they depict. There are great crimes allowed by the indifference of intentional ignorance... and conceivably, greater ones perpetrated by corruption and greed.
May your attentive, generous, and loving soul be blessed and heeded.

You are right on every point. The thing is it has been going on for God only knows how long. In my lifetime the world--with America leading--has pumped billions of $$$ into the beleagured land and noting has changed except making the Swiss bank accounts of the insidious despots which rule them fat beyond belief. So rant on, but look to where you rant.
Karla your compassion shows in this fine write and I agree it is the ignorant that allow it to continue. But not the ignorant of the world, but the ignorant in their own country. They have allowed war lords and tyrants to keep the billions of dollars in aide this country and others have given. Until people like Alex realize the true problem, like Abdi Noor does,and Bono the entertainer who knows it well, and has praised Bush and America for what it has done in African nations. It will never get solved, because bad rhetoric like those who only care to demean our country and its leaders, help the tyrants! Thanks for the opportunity to have my say;-)

yes, our eyes. while we're busy "defending freedom" in iraq, and waging a "war on terrorism" all over the world, we forget those who really do need us. we turn a blind eye to the suffering in africa, while stomping our feet all over those who want nothing to do with us. here's an idea: let michael jackson and any other bored popstar who wants to record an album for iraq, while our government actually does something meaningful for the children of africa, honoring the birthplace of us all.
i'm glad someone here wrote this; i'm glad i'm not the only one angry over it.
When are people going to step up and start helping those who are TRULY in need?? Heartwrenchingly, no holds barred, sock it in your face write, one that is sorely needed!
God bless those poor people in Niger and in Africa; God be with them...Very well done; brava!
