Got a book of Anne Sexton's poetry. One of hers, "You, Dr. Martin," inspired this bit of strangeness....is it biographical? Yes.
strange! this place i find myself in. the bed, even stranger (this one m o v e s). and this room, strangest of all: not. my. own. needles, machines, tests. so many--what's wrong/ not wrong? afraid! of what they'll find/ not find (told ya's she's nutz), and what it'll cost me in the long run. strange (cold) room, strange (hard) bed (SLAB OF ICE) table, monitor leads/straps/breathe deeeeeeeeeeeeep GOOD/ night, nurse nurse? NURSE?? (hurts to breathe, hurts to move, O the pain--hurts needles are my friends) long eyes, pitiful glances staring into my room, wearing me out waiting...watching...hoping i'll die VULTURES!!

Oh Lord, hear my prayer, let me die before I have to enter a hospital. Amen.
Come to think of it I alays have a feeling I'm alive going in a hospital and coming out dead anyway. Realistic poem. Victor
Now this is scary--don't like hospitals like my mom didn't like them either! Yet, it is better to be in the hospital to get well than to be out on the street wishing I had someone who would care.
Much love & hugs,
Sharon
You have captured the fear, uncertainty, and terror of being in the hospital brilliantly and perfectly; I also love the "biting" needle touch of humor you injected in this poem! Very well done; brava, my dear twin~
(((HUGS))) and much love, your other half, Karen Lynn. :D *Grins*
I certainly can emphazize with this one Karla with over a dozen stays in the hospital and operations in the past five years, it scares me for now the nurses remember me each time I go back. You have captured it well
A further collection of poems, many from years in the Middle East, but also the California San Francisco and Central Coast areas (Santa Cruz, Carmel, Big Sur, Berkeley, etc.).
