From an article in today's newspaper, "VA study: Maintenance a problem", the Associated Press:
"The Veteran Affairs vast network of 1,400 health clinics and hospitals is beset by such maintenance problems as mold, leaking roofs and even a colony of bats, an internal review says....'Who's been minding the store?' said Sen. Patty Murray, D-Wash. ....'They keep putting bandaids on problems, when what the agency needs is major triage. ...." Ya THINK???

The management like Mr.Ed enjoy to sit and debate instead of solving. We have knowledge to do it but too many chiefs going around in circles trying to look important. Important and well done write.

After 70 years of neglect to the Vets and the facility, high time someone is taking note but will they do anything about it? I doubt it. Only the one that got all the press.
What an embarrassing situation. You are right to write about it, Karla -- but also send it to your Congressman and newspapers, TV, radio ... These abominations need to be dealt with.

I once wrote a report about the bugs we found in a veteran hospital kitchen. My recommendation - clean them up!
Alas, the Washington bureaucrats got hold of the report, and they held it up for well over a year. The reason? They had to debate on exactly what type of bugs they were!
Once again we see the forgotten vet. They spend billions to kill people when are they going to spend to save a few? If any have a chance to visit a veterans hospital please do so. I promise you'll be disappointed. Sad but informative write Karla.

One of our congresswomen (Jean Schmidt, R-OH2) thinks that the media and the politicians have made too much out of it and that the problems of Walter Reed are overblown. Go figure...you captured it quite well here. **hug**
Corruption and mismanagement should not thrive in the midst of this most developed country. Everyone should be held responsible for their actions. Critical condition should be read by policy makers and state officials.
The one word that stands out here is "Critical"...these are conditions that can't wait, if it doesn't turn for the better NOW...it will be a dire situation for all those dependant on such conditions SOON!

It is totally irresponsible and shameful the way veterns who have given so much are given such a low priority compared to the budger spent for example on arms.
I don't think you want me to get started on the treatments of our vet, both by our VA system, our politicans and those who oppose the war, I get angry when I hear what our men and women have to deal with when coming back from the war, its really ashame and I applaud you for speaking up, and for your service to our country

God, I hope so; the veterans deserve only the very best of what the government promised. It's a durn shame that they are not getting the medical care they earned for serving the nation.
