The Pentagon refused to give returning Iraqi and Afghanistan war Veterans that suffer from PTSD Purple Hearts for their mental injuries. SHAME.

on terror-filled dreams and in
sudden noises that electrify the

Purple Heart, because your

honor or didn't leave blood or
limb behind: rules, you know.

This poem effects me very much, like it should, but the photo accomplicing it makes the feeling being expressed more than it is. Not only through my mind and my interpretation but through a visual. Veryyyyy nice. :]

And Georg knows. Wounded three seriously times (one by an inch of his life) he got a Purple Heart after a high brass got pissed off when they ignored him on his thir tour.
The Purple Heart should be used as a recognition to the thousands that where wounded for life, physically or mentally for their unselfish service to the country.
It isn't in the rules, it is a result of envy from those sitting behind a office desk dreaming new ways to screw those that fought when daddy pull strings so them could spit on the Nam's heros.
Sad indeed. this poem is strong and hope it will land on a pentagon tray, one day tó change the minds of those who run the state machinery and make policy for the nation. Well done dear Karla. Your brother and friend abdi-noor
It is sad that we can not only send young people into zones of occupation without the tools and resources needed to do the job but then when they come back broken in either mind or body...refuse to recognize what war has done to them. Well said Karla.

Here's a little story for you. There is nothing new or unknown about PTSD (except for its name). My step-grandfather fought through WWI and WWII, serving on everything from the early S-Boat subs to the 4-stack destroyers. He had several ships sunk out from underneath him by kamakazis. In the 1950s, sitting at our kitchen table, he would cringe if a piper cub flew over our house. He would constantly flash back to horrible war experiences. He never lost a limb but part of his mind was destroyed. They called it "Shell Shock" in those days, and they never offered him a Purple Heart, or anything, for that matter. Now it is called PTSD and our government continues to ignore it as a wound. Yes, Karen has it exactly right on. Georg should weigh in on this one -- he knows!!!
These people are insane. In many ways are Iraqi and Afghanistan vets are being treated no differently than those that came out of Vietnam. When will our goverment, get its head screwed on straight.
