Thank you for sharing your thoughts, Karla. I think each of us, in our own way, has addictions...whether it be drinking, smoking, stealing, lying, eating chocolate, watching certain t.v. shows, exercising...etc... These are words all of us need to hear.
I applaud you, Karla. It's hard to break habits and keep them crushed underfoot - especially diseases. This reminds me of my battle with bulimia. (Not sure if I spelled that right.) The urge is always there. Most recently...cigarettes. I haven't smoked since my back surgery - almost 7 months now. Thank you for sharing this poem. Love,

Maybe the normal people are those that are in control of their lives, the ones that know where the temptations monsters lie and like St George bear the conviction lance to have it at bay.

Karla, Keep up the great work!My sister died because of being an alcoholic and luckily I found out early that I can't drink.I found early that one drink would not be enough. In fact there would never be enough. I haven't had a drink for 29 years. Yea!It IS a monster. I agree. I am with you- the monster is NOT going to get me - or kill me.

This is good. When one realizes and admits to alcoholism, that when one is sober and healed.
Alcoholism is not an addiction, it is a disease, and there are many reasons that are unknown and yet laid within a person to cause that person to drink. To be rid of alcoholism a person needs to be strong and determine and not to be swayed by the least enticement. I'm glad you have rid of this disease.
Alcoholism is a terrible disease, but you've conquered it. I have a feeling by your write you may be having urges again, don't give in!
You're a strong Christian woman, and that was another life. May God help you in your struggle. You will win, and the monster will die.

Karla, I mentioned the other day how proud of you I am for being so courageous and public about this disease...You are an exceptional and beautiful woman who has conquered many negatives...and therefore, you are a hero among women; but also to all of us! Others cannot understand or know unless we learn, and we cannot learn without a teacher and/or example! I am glad you gave up drinking ('cause I would have had to hurt you if you didn't!! LOL KIDDING!!)! Good on you; you don't need that stuff in your life! Life is already complicated enough; why live it in an alcoholic haze?? No, not a good way to be! Stay on that wagon, hang on to it as tight as you can, and NEVER give in to that Monster! I won't let you!!
