... just another day of living with Post Traumatic STORM Disorder --
Image and video (c) 2009, Karla Dorman
... nerves firing off one by one until
they all overamp: overloaded by
fear until the body shuts down
from sheer exhaustion. Desperately
wanting to confront the beast on its
own turf, but unable to get past the
memories of six tornadoes and a
roof gone over the years that have
left an indelible footprint on the
psyche. Screaming arguments with
loved ones who don't understand
the terror that comes in nightmare
and each storm that may or may not
come -- it's in the forecast. Where
to go, where to hide?!? Underground
shelters not an option. Teeny tiny
claustrophobic sized half baths don't
count. Supercells with grapefruit
hail and twisters approaching from
the northwest galvanize feet to
action -- get a ride to the local
hospital to wait out the weather --
it's just another day of living with
Post Traumatic STORM Disorder --
In some ways this could aptly also stand for PRE traumatic storm disorder. :~)... That constant looming fear before a storm...
Sorry that storms plague you so.
Love and hugs,
Cryssa

Hi Karla, a very intense write...you are in my prayers, love Holly
I am beginning to know what you are trying to convy
About storms, today we had one of our severe storms
with tormnado warnings, saw some really ugly clouds
and pray they continue on there way and not sending
any twister downward
the rain started, of which I sit by enjoying the rhythm
of the rain drops against my window pane, while listening to the rolling thounder at a distance
Love & peace be with you
Dear 1/2 Twin, for your information, since 1945 has been recommended the building and use of deep in the ground bunkers that will keep at bay atom-blast as well as silly hurricane storms! Something to think about?
Hope you have one, so...use it!
To me, Karla, this is one of the best of your recent poems.
I sense the anger, the fear, and the need to escape more
trauma from those Texas storms. All I can do from the Jersey
shore is hope for your safety and wish you peace of mind.
With love of course, gene.
It's a very personal and unique vision of trauma, weather, insecurity that you share here. I like what you chose to tell in this piece of writing, and although you share some facts, the particular point of view is what makes them poetic.
Karla,
The power and honesty in this match any storm. You are always in my thoughts and I know you will ride it out, you will win, of course you will.

I agree with Bear...I hope and pray you find the solution ,because weather is a problem that isn't going away. You either face it or fear it! Keep praying karla...I pray with you...
Hi Karla, You write from a StormSpinner's heart! It's in the forecast... I love how you fit that line in there... excellent write, my friend... stay strong, 'cuz forecasts aren't always accurate... :)
Sorry about the other day, but I need to understand where you are coming from. Maybe if it happens to me (and I pray it DOESN'T), maybe only then will I truly see what you heard, experienced first hand. Excellent capture of fear gone wild! Well done, Karla; brava!
(((HUGS))) and much love, your (stormphobic) twin, Karen Lynn. :(
