... scrub the clouds back and forth, back and forth ....

Image (c) 2009, Karla Dorman

Poem Artwork

              laundry day:

... pull out the washboard; fill
the tub with rain.  scrub the
clouds back and forth, back
and forth against the corrugated
surface of sky.  must remove
dirt of summer's heat and sweat
that has been ingrained for f a r
too long.  rinse.  repeat.  once
more.  there:  better.  air smells
fresher, doesn't it?  pin clouds to
a lightning bolt, beat with paddle
of thunder to get rid of the last of
the moisture.  the wind will dry
them fast.  sit back and enjoy the
fruits of my labor:  a clean start.

I name you "Mothersky" you know all about the weather and you write brilliantly about her, just when one thinks that you've imagined all there is to write about the sky, you drop another beautiful bomb, I love this so very much. I will read it to Nina. You know, your poems about the weather would make a great Children's poetry book.

Fabulous sustained metaphor here, Karla. This is beautifully felt and very adroitly penned for us so that this scene lives and breathes - yes, the smell is wonderful! Love the sense of toil in this - it translates well into how the skies sigh with the effort of it all... xx
