ah wuz livin' in sout' louisiane,
waaay down' sout' where dem big 'gators ran,
dey'll et anyt'ing don' et 'em firs',
wha' happen t' greaseball wuz da wors'!
ah tol' an' tol' dat neighbor a' mine,
"don' y'all put greaseball on dat dere line,
'less greaseball win' up in 'gator stew,
ah wouldn' do dat, if ah wuz yew!"
see, greaseball wuz a rottweiler dog,
biggest t'ing in da bayous an' bogs,
ah'd knew dat dog since he wuz a pup,
dat wuz one *BIG* dog when he growed up!
dat neighbor didn' wan' greaseball loose,
dat dam dog wuz as big as a moose,
he pu' him on a line, 'gator food,
'gator'd play wit' him when in da mood!
well, one day, my neighbor was a' work,
heard some noises comin' from da murk,
ah look outside--t'rough da fog an' mis'
ah called ma neighbor an' i was pissed!!
"dat 'gator's got greaseball in his mout'!"
"hahn?" said it again, dis time i shout,
"DAM 'GATOR'S GOT GREASEBALL...GET HERE, FAS'!!"
neighbor get home 'fore one minute pass,
too late fer greaseball--'gator got 'im,
drownded po' greaseball in deadly spins,
po' ol' greaseball could not get away,
ma neighbor learn a lesson dat day!
-----------------------------------------------------------
po' ol' greaseball jus' a memory
bet ma neighbor feels purty guilty!

NEVER tie a pet near the edge of a
bayou...especially if you know a
'gator is living there. This is a
perfect opportunity to invite a
'gator for a snack!!
This is based on truth...what hap-
pened to Greaseball shouldn't hap-
pen to a dog. :(
Greaseball was my neighbor's dog;
he found him when he was just a
little pup, a couple of weeks old.
Greaseball became his name because
of where he was found...in an auto
repair shop, under a rack...how he
survived is beyond me. He was the
color of grease, lying in grease...
hence, his name.
Poor little Greaseball...*tears*
I always called Greaseball little,
even though he wasn't. :) He was
just a big ol' baby. I miss him.

This was great Karla and you got the accent down pat. Although I don't like it when people tie up their dogs at all. Dogs are domesticated to live in the company of humans. They want to den with their human owner, not be tied up to a tree.
Really good work, Karla. Poor Greaseball though.

i remember ole' greaseball too; that dog intimidated me! YIKES, he was BIG!! :0 but there you'd go, right on up to him, talkin' to him like a baby; and he'd be lovin' on you! kissing your face...*NASTY*! a humorous write about a not-so-humorous outcome that happens too often, one that could have easily been prevented! love, and (((HUGS))), your twin, karen lynn. >tears < for "greaseball" :(
I’ve encountered many non-human creatures on my life’s journey.
I have found each and every one of these animals to be a unique and wondrous being.
Animals have truly brought fullness to my life. Some of them have also brought de
